48 Babies Make History When They're Born Within 41 Hours at Single Hospital

Share

Who doesn’t love seeing babies? They’re one of life’s most adorable blessings.

Think about the last time you spotted a baby in public. Those big, wondering eyes and cute chubby cheeks can instantly draw your attention.

They can also make you smile on the spot. Once you’ve captured a baby’s gaze, it’s tough to avoid interacting in some sweet way.

In fact, here’s an interesting statistic.  According to Irish publication The Journal, most adults only smile a measly 20 times per day.

Want to try guessing how many times children smile daily in comparison? The Journal points to a number that hovers right around 400.

So maybe we should think of these wee ones as the charming smile magnets of our species. Because encountering a giggling infant can almost always make a grown-up grin.

But if one baby can help you feel happy, then a hospital in Fort Worth, Texas, has some news that should put you right over the moon. Baylor, Scott and White All Saints Medical Center recently broke an amazing record at the end of June.

The previous record had been held by Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas. It involved the number of new babies delivered within a specified interval.

Baylor had previously earned a bundle of recognition for welcoming 42 tiny kiddos in 48 hours. But between June 26 and June 28, All Saints Medical Center easily bested that figure.

According to Nursing Director Michelle Stemley, 48 babies came into the world. And they all made their grand entrance within a single 41-hour window.

For comparison purposes, Dr. Elisabeth Wagner explained to Fox 4 News that the hospital normally has “about 15 deliveries” each day. She also offered a simple theory about the plethora of precious new patients.

She mentioned that nine months ago, Texas weather had begun turning chilly as the days grew measurably shorter. “I don’t probably have to say more than that,” Dr. Wagner wryly added.

According to a Facebook post from ABC 7 New York, another doctor theorized that a full moon may have prompted the collective rush to the maternity ward. But whatever the cause, the outcome is equally joyous.

The bouncing baby breakdown amounted to 27 girls and 21 boys. Add to that one exhausted — but incredibly dedicated — nursing team.

“We had to order pizza for the staff,” Stemley told Inside Edition. “No one had time to get away to take a lunch break.”

But the “Baby Boom Moms,” as they’re known, say they’re proud to be eternally linked by such a blessed event. And the rest of us can all enjoy 48 endearing new reasons to smile.
