Children in Hospital Greeted by 'Superheroes' Scaling Windows in Heartwarming Video
It’s something no child — or parent — should have to endure. But sadly for many, childhood illness is an all too true reality.
Day in and day out, some families have made it their routine. Rather than chaperoning field trips, parents drive their kiddos to chemo treatments.
Instead of helping with school bake sales, moms and dad watch their little ones struggle to keep food down.
Still, this is normality for a number of families throughout the country. However, if you happen to be a patient at Blank Children’s Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa, you might get an out-of-this-world surprise.
And that surprise is brought to families at Blank Children’s by a team of people you might never suspect.
Then again, living double-lives is what these guys are known for. Window washers by day, the employees at Larry’s Window Services take their jobs very seriously.
But their day jobs are more than just squeegees and soap buckets. When it comes to bringing smiles to children’s faces, these window washers are true heroes.
It’s become an annual tradition — an action-packed team of window cleaners trades in their work suits for “super suits.”
And what better time to transform into a superhero? With summer blockbusters like “Incredibles 2” and “Ant-Man and the Wasp” hitting theaters, everyone has crime-fighting supers on the brain.
Unfortunately, for children and families battling illnesses that could rival a super-villain, a weekend at the movies just isn’t an option.
Which is why Larry’s guys have taken it upon themselves to “save the day” the best way they can — by dressing up as superheroes for the children who need a hero most.
This year the team played the roles of Spider-Man, Captain America, Batman and The Flash. When they showed up on the other side of the soon-to-be cleaned glass, children and families were delighted.
“We hope that for ten minutes they can forget where they are and just be a kid,” Amy Varcoe, a hospital spokesperson, shared. “It makes my heart absolutely explode.”
If you watch the video of the kids and iconic heroes interacting, your heart just might explode, too.
“I’ve seen the smiles on the kids’ faces and the way they light up once they see us,” Jessie Howard, who played Captain America, said. “It’s really for them, so it’s just awesome.”
These men have hearts of gold. Rather than complain about their job, they’ve gone above and beyond to embrace it, much to the satisfaction and praise of the people inside the hospital’s walls.
Keep doing what you do, guys. As far as those children are concerned, you are the real Avengers, no doubt about it.
