Emotional 10-Year-Old Boy Starts Crying During Goodbye Song to Elementary School
We’ve watched the slap-happy and downright hilarious steal the spotlight on “America’s Funniest Home Videos” for nearly three decades. Even the website of the popular family program boasts to be “the longest-running primetime entertainment show in the history of ABC.”
From the Bob Saget years to the show’s latest host, Alfonso Ribeiro, the show has remained a cultural icon during its 28 seasons. And it’s still going strong.
Winners have laughed and cried, excited to spend their earnings on everything from family vacations to debt payoffs. While $10,000 could certainly purchase many things, one young man from Colonie, New York decided his prize money had a higher cause.
In 2016, the Finlan family entered the video contest. The moment their son, Luke Finlan, got more than a bit teary-eyed during a graduation concert made America laugh and cry.
Luke’s dad admitted he expected his son to end up on AFV for something eventually. However, he couldn’t have anticipated just how meaningful his son’s television debut would be.
“What’ll you do with the money?” Ribeiro asked Luke, 10 years old at the time. “Donate,” was the elementary student’s one-word response.
I’m not crying. You’re crying.
Watch as Luke earns every penny of that ten grand. You can’t help but get emotional over his… well… emotions!
His parents were more than a little proud, to say the least. Even the show’s host claimed to get “sentimental.”
“He’s touched by the less fortunate,” Luke’s mom explained. “I’m really proud of him… he’s a really good kid,” his dad added.
Some of Luke’s earnings were sent to Soldier’s Heart, an organization that helps those who have served in the military heal from the kinds of wounds that can’t be stitched by a surgeon.
The New York native also donated to Equinox, a local organization dedicated to helping those in need.
No doubt Luke has great things in his future. For such a young person, he already has a bigger heart than some people twice his age.
