Grandma Battling Brain Cancer Looks Out Window and Sees Grandkids Holding Up Sweet Sign
Those who are blessed to have a grandparent in their lives know firsthand the amazing benefits of that special bond.
A group of grandchildren from Delaware Valley who call themselves “The Magnificent Seven” have a very special relationship with their grandmother Sandy Vanderstine, whom they affectionately call “Mommom.”
Vanderstine has battled cancer three times, according to WTXF-TV. Her most recent battle with brain cancer has certainly been a tough one.
But the support of her three daughters and their families makes a world of difference. They all wear t-shirts in support of their Mommom.
“We try to all keep a positive mindset because she is the rock of our family,” 15-year-old granddaughter Colette Weidle told WTXF.
“So, by us showing how much we love her, it’s kind of healing her in a sense because we’re always going to be there with her.”
Following a stem-cell transplant surgery, “The Magnificent Seven” of course wanted to visit Mommom and show their support.
Unfortunately, they weren’t allowed in her room, but that didn’t stop this band of kids from getting creative. They were determined to show Vanderstine how much they love her.
So they broke out their artistic skills and made a banner that Mommom could see from her hospital room window.
“Hospital said NO kids we said OK no big deal we got this,” Vanderstine’s daughter, Nicole Weidle, shared on Facebook. “Mommom look out your window! We’re here.”
The strong grandmother said that the sight made her cry.
“They’ve been really amazing, they go the extra step, the extra smile,” she told WTXF.
“They’re always looking to take care of me and they hold me up when I’m sick, they’ve been wonderful.”
The grandchildren write letters and quotes for Mommom to read during her stay. Thankfully, the family reported she is doing well following the removal of her brain tumor along with the stem-cell transplant.
“I know she’s going to keep fighting,” Weidle said.
What an inspiring group of young people these grandchildren are! Mommom will remain in our prayers and thoughts, and we are sure her grandkids look forward to having her home again very soon.
