Lewandowski Border Statement Causes Lib's Screaming Meltdown Live on Fox News

Share

Though they will feign righteous indignation when called out on it, there is zero doubt that liberals and progressive leftists have exploited the issue of illegal immigrant families being temporarily separated at the border for political gain.

Indeed, the issue that drove President Donald Trump to issue an executive order Wednesday about detaining illegal alien parents and children only came to a head in the past few weeks with regard to the Trump administration’s “zero tolerance” border enforcement policy.

The underlying law being enforced, which mandates that illegal immigrant children and adults be housed separately, has been in effect since 1997, and occurred with minimal media notice or liberal outrage under prior administrations.

The recent faux outrage and virtue-signaling by the left on this increasingly emotional issue was called out by former Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski during an appearance on Fox News Tuesday evening, according to Real Clear Politics.

Likely mimicking the indecipherable murmurings of adults in the old “Peanuts” cartoons, Lewandowski said “womp, womp” as his debate counterpart — Democrat strategist Zac Petkanas — began to share a story about a mentally disabled girl separated from her mother at the border. Lewandowski’s response sparked sparked an over-the-top indignant meltdown by Petkanas.

“I read today about a 10-year-old girl with Down syndrome who was taken from her mother and put in a cage,” began Petkanas, before Lewandowski interjected with his “womp, womp” sound effect.

“I read about a — did you say ‘womp womp’ to a 10-year-old girl with Down syndrome being taken from her mother?” asked an Petkanas.

Lewandowski replied, “What I said is, you can pick anything you want, but the bottom line is very simple: When you cross the border illegally you have given up the rights of this country.”

Are Democrats exploting the family separation issue for political gain?

His reply was barely heard though, as Petkanas, in full-on high dudgeon, indignantly proclaimed repeatedly, “How dare you! How dare you! How absolutely dare you, sir!”

The two continued to talk over and past each other for most of the remainder of the segment.

Unsurprisingly, liberals and their allied media outlets immediately seized on the moment as an example of the supposedly heartless and uncaring nature of the Trump administration and its supporters with regard to the separation of illegal immigrant families at the border.

According to Politico, Lewandowski responded Wednesday to the controversy his remark had sparked by explaining that he wasn’t mocking the disabled girl who had been separated from her mother, but had merely “mocked a liberal who attempted to politicize children as opposed to discussing the real issue, which is fixing a broken immigration system.”

“Look, I don’t know the young girl that Zac referenced. I was mocking Zac, a liberal Democrat National Committee activist who is doing nothing but politicizing the issue of making an example of one particular child,” Lewandowski said on Fox News, according to Politico. “Nobody wants to see children separated from their parents. But the parents have to understand when they come to this country illegally, those are the consequences.”

To be sure, Lewandowski probably picked the worst possible moment — and worst possible way — to make his point about how liberals have politicized the issue. It was easy for the left to interpret his sarcastic remark as denigrating and dismissing the plight of the 10-year-old girl with Down syndrome.

Nevertheless, his point remains quite valid, and he is certainly not the only American who has grown sick and tired of liberals using emotional stories of illegal immigrant children separations to try and manipulate a political win for Democrats — a shady tactic for which they should be mocked.

Lewandowski probably should have waited for a less legitimate sob story in order to make his point, or more explicitly gone after absurd liberal commentators. It’s possible his mockery even did more harm than good for the right’s narrative on border security.

But Petkanas’ ridiculously over-the-top crocodile tears in response to Lewandowski’s remark doesn’t help the left’s ludicrous emotion-based narrative either.
