Neighbor Hears Woman Screaming for Her Life, Sees Her on Ground Surrounded by Pack of Dogs
While biking near my Lexington, Kentucky, home as a child, I happened upon a pair of roving dogs — or, rather, they happened upon me. They came snapping and snarling around me.
I was only in single digits, yet I still remember the fear I felt in that moment. I knew that I couldn’t get away from those animals.
If they chose to attack me, all I would’ve been able to do was brace up and hope they didn’t do too much damage. It was a fear that must’ve been magnified a dozen times for an elderly North Carolina woman who found herself attacked by a pack of dogs on Dec. 3.
According to WXII, an older woman in her 60s found herself facing a group of four dogs determined to do her some harm.
Surveillance video captured the whole thing. In it, the woman is walking along the sidewalk, unconcerned and seemingly unaware of what’s about to happen. As the barking pit bull mixes come racing up, she starts, surprised by the commotion.

Then she backs away as the dogs nip and her pants and coat. However, soon that nipping turns to outright aggression.
The dogs drag her down and begin going for her head. Only the arrival of a neighbor saves her.
The neighbor charges up, scattering the canines. Then she seizes the older woman’s purse and begins swinging it at the dogs like a weapon.
Inside Edition reported that this wasn’t the only thing the neighbor did to help the woman. She also called 911 prior to rushing out.
“I hear someone screaming,” she explained. “I wasn’t sure if it was around the house in this area or where.
“But the screaming was, ‘Help me! Help me!’ — very weak sounds. The lady was laid down in the driveway, four dogs around her biting.
“So I run to her immediately. I was screaming, ‘Get out! Get out!’”
Veterinarian Dr. Jeff Werber examined the video and concluded that the attack probably started off fairly innocently. He surmised that the dogs might have thought the older woman had food in her bag.
However, that playfulness soon became vicious as a pack mentality took over. The woman ended up with multiple wounds on her limbs and head.
After the attack, another neighbor added, “The dogs are running in the streets, especially during the night. So, my kids, I never leave them alone in the street.”
Fortunately, they won’t be bothering anyone in the near future. Forsyth Animal Humane Society has custody of the animals until their owner installs proper safety measures.
