NRA Leader Defiantly Smacks Down Democrats in Charged CPAC Speech

Share

In the wake of an onslaught of attacks against the NRA from Democrats and the mainstream media after the Florida high school shooting, the NRA’s executive vice president Wayne LaPierre fought back with the the truth behind the left’s vitriolic attacks.

During his charged speech Thursday morning at the Conservative Political Action Conference, LaPierre lambasted the media for exploiting the tragedy to push for more gun control in America.

As noted by Scope News, LaPierre said gun control advocates only want to impose “more restrictions on the law-abiding” citizens while sweeping “right under the carpet the failure of school society.”

The NRA leader said Democrats “hate the NRA, they hate Second Amendment, and they hate individual freedom,” which is why they are using the tragedy to bolster their calls for more gun restrictions.

He was referring to the shooting by confessed gunman Nikolas Cruz, the clearly disturbed 19-year-old who killed 17 people at the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida last week.

LaPierre said the media and far-left groups have combined forces to lead a smear campaign that portrays the nation’s largest gun organization as the culprits in the school shooting.

He defiantly rebuked that assertion to a boisterous CPAC crowd, saying the NRA has publicly stated several times it would support policy forbidding private citizens from purchasing bump stocks.

The NRA leader also said the media has failed to report that the group has also called for legislative solutions to prevent individuals with mental health issues from legally obtaining a firearm.

“For them it’s not a safety issue, it’s a political issue,” LaPierre said. “Their goal is to eliminate the Second Amendment and our firearms freedoms, so they can eradicate all individual freedoms.”

Do you agree with LaPierre that the liberal media has led a smear campaign against the NRA?

“Their solution is to make you, all of you, less free,” he added. “They want to sweep right under the carpet the failure of school security, the failure of family, the failure of America’s mental health system and even the unbelievable failure of the FBI.”

Check out LaPierre’s entire speech below, which features many defiant rebukes of the liberal media’s smear campaign against the NRA.

LaPierre is absolutely correct that both the FBI and law enforcement officials in Florida failed to act when they received numerous tips about Cruz displaying violent behavior.

The FBI was tipped off in September 2017 and in early January about Cruz discussing online that he wanted to be a school shooter. Nothing was done.

The media has largely failed to report that because it doesn’t align with their partisan message of pushing for gun control. If they really cared about the safety of children, they would focus on the failures that have made children less safe — not on trying to take guns away from law-abiding citizens.

Thankfully, LaPierre didn’t cower to liberal pressure and exposed the despicable motives behind mass gun control initiatives.

Americans couldn’t be happier to see his staunch support for the Second Amendment and willingness to fight back against the liberal media.
