Glee star Cory Montieth was found dead in a hotel room in Vancouver from an overdose on a mixture of heroin and alcohol. Though his death took place before filming of the fifth season of Glee, showrunners knew they would have to discuss how to address his death in the show.

It wasn’t until the third episode of the fifth season that the characters in the show explained that Monteith’s character, Finn had died.
