Walmart 'Secret Santa' That Paid Off Layaway Items Was Actually an 11-Year-Old Boy

Share

Secret Santas (a.k.a. good Samaritans) have been everywhere this year. Story after heartwarming story seems to be popping up, informing us of yet another kind soul who has paid for someone’s Christmas layaway.

CBS News reported a shopper in Vermont paid for a woman’s layaway items just before Thanksgiving. But the buck didn’t stop there.

According to Vox, multiple celebrities have paid off hundreds of thousands of dollars in layaway purchases this season.

Similar stories have been seen in states across the country. There’s also a group known as “Pay Away the Layaway” which takes donations that go toward paying off layaway balances.

Wonderful deeds all around, but none perhaps as surprising as a layaway do-gooder from Ludlow, Massachusetts.

The culprit is an 11-year-old boy named Brady Procon. After seeing a layaway “secret Santa” story in the news, the 6th grader wanted to join in the giving fun, Western Mass News reported.

“Not a lot of kids are as fortunate as others, so I thought it would be nice to help a kid have Christmas,” he shared with the news outlet.

So Brady and his parents went to the Walmart in Chicopee where Brady pulled a random layaway receipt out and paid for the bill.

The best part was that the items on the receipt looked to be for a kid around Brady’s age. “I’m hoping that other kids would catch along with this… and sort of kick-off a trend,” the boy said.

“He’s always thinking of others,” Kristen Procon, Brady’s mom, explained. But his parents aren’t the only ones impressed with the young man’s generous heart.

“Very proud of BMS 6th grader Brady Procon for his random act of kindness at the Chicopee Walmart, paying off a random layaway,” Ludlow Public Schools wrote on Facebook.

Darlynne Yenisse Hernandez, one of the employees who witnessed Brady’s selfless act, also had some words to share on social media.

“This little boy right here definitely made my night…” Hernandez said on Facebook. “No one knows what people go through, especially during the holidays, the littlest of things sure goes a long way.”

Wow! What a kid! Giving certainly seems to be infectious as of late. Have you taken part in this layaway payoff challenge?
