Watch: Trump's NIH Director Jay Bhattacharya Unloads on Fauci Over Texts Showing He Thought One Thing, But Said Another to American Mothers
Dr. Anthony Fauci, the former director of the National Institute for Allergy and Infectious Diseases, cemented his spot in American history as the very outspoken face of the government’s response to the COVID pandemic six years ago — and as a cheerleader for the COVID vaccine.
But amid revelations of Fauci’s lack of honesty in the COVID era, the head of the National Institutes of Health on Monday issued a scathing denunciation of the one-time all-powerful health bureaucrat over his handling of the question of whether the COVID vaccine could be linked to miscarriage.
It wasn’t so much what Fauci said that was wrong in this case, but what he didn’t say — at least what he didn’t say to the public.

“When you have a new product, like the COVID vaccine was back then, you should be careful with pregnant women,” NIH Director Jay Bhattacharya told Fox News.
“It’s shocking to me that he was sharing private thoughts, and that when he was out in public, and he was out in public a lot, he didn’t share those private thoughts with the American public,” said Bhattacharya, himself a veteran of the COVID era, and certainly not on Fauci’s side.
And what were those “private thoughts”?
In a news release Monday, Wyoming Republican Sen. Ron Johnson — a skeptic of the establishment COVID line from years past — revealed how Fauci’s public statements vastly downplayed the potential risk he had privately acknowledged of the vaccine posing threats to pregnant women and their unborn babies.
On Feb. 13, 2021, according to the release, Fauci told a Journal of the American Medical Association podcast that the Food and Drug Administration “thus far” had found “no red flags about that, about pregnant women.”
Yet only weeks earlier, on Jan. 25, 2021, Fauci was in a text thread conversation with Dr. Vivek Murthy — who was then the incoming Biden administration’s nominee for surgeon general — and Rochelle Walensky, the incoming administration’s appointee to direct the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
In that discussion, according to the release, Fauci acknowledged candidly that thanks to the potential for fever caused by the vaccine’s second dose, “this theoretically could be associated with miscarriage in the first trimester.”
“Good point,” Walensky responded, “esp after dose two.”
On their face, Fauci’s statements are not mutually exclusive, but there’s a world of difference between them.
Fauci saying “no red flags” carries a very strong implication that there were, in fact, no red flags regarding the COVID vaccine in pregnant women, and that there would be none. It would be heard that way by a trusting American public, at any rate, and Fauci had to know that.
Any association of the vaccine with miscarriage, however “theoretically” it was posed, would be heard — rightly — by pregnant women and their families as exactly the kind of red flag Fauci was implying didn’t exist.
And Fauci had to know that, too.
In another conversation included in the release, on Jan. 26, 2021, Murthy asked Fauci and Walensky their thoughts on the World Health Organization’s recommendation that pregnant women avoid taking the Moderna vaccine.
Fauci responded with what, in the context, is classic Fauci logic by misdirection.
“I would say that in any vaccine in which data are lacking in pregnant women one must weigh the potential risks against the benefits,” he wrote. “COVID-19 can be a serious disease especially in pregnancy.”
Note that he doesn’t say who is supposed to weigh the potential risks versus benefits. If it’s the pregnant women in question, Fauci didn’t go on to provide much information to them by hiding the “theoretical” risk a COVID shot posed for miscarriage.
The inference then is that it’s governing authorities — like the all-powerful Anthony Fauci himself — who are the ones weighing the risks and benefits, without bothering to inform their subjects of their decisions.
It’s exactly that kind of duplicitous record that has Fauci — the recipient of a shady presidential pardon issued as former President Joe Biden was on his way out the White House door — facing the possibility of criminal prosecution at the state level from Republican attorneys general.
It’s important to note that in the years since the height of COVID, numerous studies — in the United States, in Canada, in Iran — have failed to show a link between COVID vaccination and miscarriage. Readers can make their own judgment about that.
But it’s just as important, from the standpoint of self-governing Americans living in a supposedly free society, to note that Americans deserve the truth from their government.
In this case, the revered Dr. Fauci was saying one thing in private while giving a definitely different impression in public.
“Once again, we expose Fauci’s dishonesty,” Kentucky Republican Sen. Rand Paul, Fauci’s most outspoken opponent, wrote in a post on the social media platform X.
Privately over text, Fauci admitted concerns about COVID vaccine side effects “associated with miscarriage in the 1st trimester,” yet told the public there was nothing to worry about.

Fauci fared no better on Fox News.

And, of course, the establishment media pretended nothing was happening.
“They were certainly aware of it, though, as ABC buried a 34-second news brief about it on their overnight show, ‘Good Morning America: First Look,’” NewsBusters Managing Editor Curtis Houck wrote on X.
The broadcast networks — ABC, CBS, and NBC — ignored on their lead Monday night and Tuesday morning shows the findings released by @SenRonJohnson of Fauci’s Covid-era cell phone.

It all adds up to the overarching story of COVID once again:
Instead of the straight truth, Americans got dishonesty from the federal government in the form of Anthony Fauci. Instead of a clear view of their situation, they got twisted phrasing designed to convey one impression and hide another.
Instead of being informed, they were misled to the point of being lied to. And the establishment media that played right along is playing its subservient role now.
As more and more revelations about this tawdry chapter in American history tumble out, Fauci’s disgraceful place in that history gets more and more cemented.
