16 Children Among 66 Injured or Dead in Horrific Chicago Shooting Spree

If you wholeheartedly believe every narrative peddled by the far left, you might need to seek professional help.

But you’d also believe that Chicago would be the safest city in the United States.

After all, Chicago is run by the ultra-tolerant Democrats and has some of the most stringent gun restrictions in the country. On paper, it’s a far-left utopia of a benevolent government and crime-free streets.

That belief would be ignoring the grim and tragic realities surrounding “The Second City.”

Chicago had a bloody and horrific weekend as gun violence once again gripped the city.

According to the Chicago Tribune, in the span of less than a work day, 40 people were shot, four fatally. That was just in a matter of seven pre-dawn hours on Sunday morning.

Across the entire weekend? According to WLS-TV, 66 people were shot, including 12 fatalities and dozens of injuries.

Making matters even worse, somehow, is that of all the victims over the weekend, 16 of them were under 18 years of age.

Fred Waller, chief of the police department’s Patrol Bureau, lamented the complete lack of fear that gang members had of any repercussions.

Does this prove Chicago's gun laws don't stop gun crime?

“They take advantage of that opportunity and they shoot into a crowd, no matter who they hit,” Waller told the Tribune.

The weekend’s bloody toll came from gang members indiscriminately fired at people attending funerals, block parties and other gatherings, according to news reports. It can’t be stressed enough here that bad people will find ways to get guns. Chicago’s stringent gun laws primarily affect law-abiding citizens.

Waller also noted the police department’s manpower was being stretched to investigate all of the shootings.

“Detectives are working around the clock to investigate the incidents, build a timeline of events and identify any shooter,” Waller told WLS. “We’ll also be conducting coordinated enforcement missions to target individuals that are driving the violence in these areas and focus on where we believe retaliatory violence may occur.”

Democrat Chicago Mayor Rahm Emmanuel has deservedly come under fire for his inability to fix what ails the city. Fox News political analyst Gianno Caldwell interviewed several people at a Chicago protest on Thursday and the anger against Emmanuel was undeniable.

“Honestly, the residents of Chicago are fed up with Rahm Emanuel’s inaction,” Caldwell said. “In addition they are fed up with the violence. They don’t see any change.”

Protesters ripped apart Emmanuel for being a “con man.” They also accused him of trying to divide black people. Perhaps most alarmingly to Democrats, Chicago residents lambasted Emmanuel for putting more time and effort into illegal immigrants than the everyday citizens who were being gunned down by gangs.

All of the lives lost over the weekend deserve better than Emmanuel.
