As 6 Cops Were Shot, Democrat Used Their Worst Day for a Live Campaign Fundraiser

Share

For Philadelphia cops, a bloody Wednesday shootout that left multiple wounded likely marks one of their department’s darkest days in recent history. While there were no deaths, the armed standoff left six cops injured by incoming fire.

As police at the standoff were dealing with direct small-arms fire and caring for the wounded, a politician in a different state was busy using the horrific day to boost his own campaign funds.

Virginia Delegate Mark Levine’s Facebook post during the firefight, which sends users directly to his donation page, is exactly as bad as it sounds. Levine manages to mention the injured officers exactly once before trotting out the same old anti-gun buzzwords.

Levine shamelessly didn’t even wait for the smoke to settle on this one and dramatically updated his post as more police casualties were confirmed.

“I’d be willing to lay money that the shooter(s) is/are using the kinds of mass-killing military-style assault weapons that I am trying to ban in Virginia,” Levine wrote in his post.

Ah, the mass-killing military-style assault weapon. While Levine may not exactly be a firearms expert, he doesn’t see that as a problem when trying to push legislation dealing with them.

Should a pro-gun conservative give Mark Levine a run for his money come election time?

A look at the legislation Levine supports shows ill-planned anti-gun bills like HB140, which would require a background check on any firearm transfer. Even the handing down of a family heirloom gun could quickly turn into a crime in the murky waters of this proposed law.

While Levine was busy using a shootout for his own personal gain, things weren’t getting any easier for Philadelphia cops. As numbers of casualties began to rise, officers worked desperately to end the situation without any further bloodshed.

Fortunately, the selfless actions of the first responders involved won the day.

All the cops injured from the shootout eventually recovered and were released from hospitals to the great relief of everyone involved. As bad as the firefight could have turned out, brave officers made sure that at the end of the day, the community was safe.

While a blatant cash grab from a politician is nothing new, the timing of Levine’s attempt to stuff his campaign war chest looks like a new level of selfish.
