2020 Dems Show True Priorities at Trendy Festival That's Out of Touch with Heartland America

Share

The annual South by Southwest (SXSW) festival in Austin, Texas is a mecca for spoiled, hipster millennials, and several Democratic presidential candidates are joining them this year.

The “trendy” festival showcases music, film, technology, and video games every year, but the attendees are certainly not representative of the everyday American.

If you’re not familiar with SXSW, it’s the kind of festival that holds panels about “cultural appropriation” and “LGTBQ+ in the public sector.”

The festival, which began Friday, is largely targeted toward millennials, who Democrats are apparently trying to court by making an appearance.

Democrats hoping to become the next president like Sens. Elizabeth Warren and Amy Klobuchar were given their own panels, according to CBS News.

On Sunday, lesser-known candidates like Washington Gov. Jay Inslee, former Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper, and former HUD Secretary Julián Castro will also make appearances.

And of course, the party wouldn’t be complete without the left’s quintessential radical socialist, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who is still 6 years too young to run for president.

It’s also notable that disgraced anti-Trump “Republicans” will also be making appearances.

Former Ohio Gov. John Kasich and Trump primary challenger Bill Weld will be speaking at the festival.

Are Democrats out of touch?

It’s always good when presidential candidates reach out to the public to speak about policy, but spoiled kids aren’t the people that Democrats should be trying to court right now.

The hipsters in Austin are reliably Democrat and won’t make much of a difference in any election — if the hipster vote was that important, Sen. Bernie Sanders would be our president right now.

While the festival might help smaller candidates like Andrew Yang get some publicity, it’s strange that a high-profile Democrat like Warren would waste a weekend speaking to voters that she has already courted.

Instead, high-profile Democrats should be reaching out to the Americans who are struggling to get by in middle America.

It’s widely accepted that President Donald Trump’s victory in 2016 was largely due to his ability to speak about the problems facing normal Americans in the heartland.

Democrats look completely out of touch when they are gallivanting with rich kids at festivals instead of talking about how they will bring jobs back to America, something which Trump has done phenomenally.

Apparently, Democrats didn’t learn their lesson in 2016 — presidential candidates won’t win by ignoring working-class Americans in the “fly-over” states.
