'Big Mistake': Even Democrats Are Condemning Omar's Anti-Israel Resolution
Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar seemed invigorated by the support liberal Americans gave her in the wake of President Donald Trump’s controversial comments that she should “go back” and fix her own country before trying to fix America.
In an effort to capitalize on her 24/7 news coverage, Omar proposed a resolution earlier this week that would allow United States citizens to formally boycott foreign countries, according to Fox News.
The legislation by the Minnesota representative is specifically aimed at dismantling the protections the U.S. has given Israel, as current laws ban boycotts of the country.
“We are introducing a resolution … to really speak about the American values that support and believe in our ability to exercise our First Amendment rights in regard to boycotting,” Omar told Al-Monitor.
Despite having gone to bat for Omar after Trump took on “the squad,” Democratic politicians expressed displeasure with the radical lawmaker’s absurd bill.
Rep. Brad Sherman, a high-ranking Jewish lawmaker from California, said that the resolution by Omar will not be taken seriously by fellow congressional members, The Jerusalem Post reported.
“I can’t imagine that any committee is going to mark up or take seriously any pro-BDS resolution,” Sherman said.
The BDS movement stands for “Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions” and the primary objective of the cause is to eliminate the international support for Israel.
Sherman continued: “Am I worried about the overall BDS movement worldwide as an economic matter? No. As an effort to delegitimize Israel, of course. The comments here today are a tiny part of that delegitimizing effort.”
The California lawmaker ultimately said that Omar’s bill will be “dead on arrival.”
Additionally, New York Democratic Rep. Eliot L. Engel attacked the BDS movement, calling it a “cancer.” He avoided specific mention of Omar, as his primary opponent has the support of the same organization who helped thrust “the squad” in office.
“I think the BDS movement is harmful, and anyone that promotes it is making a big mistake,” Engel told The Washington Times.
Earlier this year, Omar was accused of antisemitism after she tweeted “It’s all about the Benjamins baby” in response to comments by House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, who threatened to take “action” against Omar and Rep. Rashida Tlaib for their criticisms of Israel.
Shortly after Omar posted the response, it was deleted. However, it was already too late — the internet never forgets.

Omar can’t hide behind the president’s attacks and play the victim card forever, though.
When her wave of support from the media and fellow liberal politicians dissipates, she’ll continue to be exposed as the fringe, anti-Israel politician that she truly is.
