CNN Quick To Push Away Booker Allegations, Wants Americans To Focus On Kavanaugh Instead

Share

Following the accusation made against Supreme Court nominee Judge Brett Kavanaugh, a great deal of attention has been given to believing those who claim to be victims of sexual assault.

Hand in hand with that — for some — came renewed attention to the domestic abuse accusations against Democratic Rep. Keith Ellison.

Now Ellison has some company as a Democrat under fire. Interest has also arisen recently over something Sen. Cory Booker once revealed in relation to sexual misconduct: His own.

CNN reported that Booker shared the details of his own behavior while he was a student at Stanford in the early 1990s. He put information about the incident in a column he wrote there.

The incident he wrote about happened on New Year’s Eve in 1984. Booker was 15 years old at the time.

He wrote, “With the ‘Top Gun’ slogan ringing in my head, I slowly reached for her breast. After having my hand pushed away once, I reached my ‘mark.'”

“It was a wake-up call. I will never be the same.”

Should Sen. Cory Booker recuse himself from any further involvement in Kavanaugh's confirmation?

According to CNN, this self-admitted incident of groping is not the same as Kavanaugh’s alleged sexual assault.

To some, including CNN, Kavanaugh’s accusation — which comes with no proof — is worse than the groping Booker actually admitted to. There are multiple reasons for that, too.

First, Booker admitted to it and Kavanaugh did not. Apparently not even mentioning an incident he claims never happened is a bad thing for the Supreme Court nominee.

Second, Booker can be voted out. Kavanaugh cannot. If he is nominated, it is a lifetime appointment.

The final reason seems to be, well, because they say so. CNN wrote, “What Booker did as a teenager wasn’t right. And he has been and will be judged by voters on them.”

“But to turn Booker into a political missile to prove hypocrisy misses the mark. This isn’t about Booker. This is about Ford, Kavanaugh, and how we, together, figure out the right way forward.”

So, forget about what “Spartacus” admitted to and his role in the Kavanaugh confirmation process. Forget he admitted to groping. It isn’t as big a deal as Kavanaugh being accused — again, with no proof — of sexual assault.

Not everyone is buying that logic. For some, it is hypocritical for Booker to have any involvement in the confirmation process. They don’t believe he has any right to be questioning Ford or Kavanaugh, either, given his own past.

But according to CNN, you should just move along, there is nothing to see here. Keep your focus on Kavanaugh. An allegation is far more worthy of your attention and outrage than an outright admission of sexual misconduct.
