Caravan Swells to 14,000 Members, Now 10 Times Larger Than Original Mob

Share

The Honduran caravan barreling toward the southern border of the United States has now grown to a dangerously large number.

The mob now numbers over 14,000, according to Mexico’s El Universal. The caravan that caused a similar stir earlier this year only numbered around 1,200 people.

At over ten times the size of the original in April of this year, the new caravan seems to be growing daily as it slowly rolls toward America. And although the last one was whittled down to less than a few hundred people at the end, this one shows no signs of stopping.

Do you think the caravan will be stopped at the U.S. border?

The president of Honduras, Juan Orlando Hernández, told Vice President Mike Pence the migrant caravan was originally organized by “leftist groups,” with funding coming from socialist Venezuela.

Video footage of the migrants hitching rides on large trucks is also beginning to circulate. The added mobility is fueling speculation that this caravan will not fall apart like the last one.

With the midterm elections just around the corner, the migrant caravan has become a political game of chicken for President Donald Trump’s administration.

A response to the caravan crisis is quickly becoming a key issue for voters. Democrats have long supported near-unchecked immigration, even offering their own cities as sanctuaries for illegal aliens.

Now is Trump’s chance to prove he can be both tough and fair on immigration. America’s eyes are on the caravan, and whatever Trump does will certainly make headlines.

On the 2016 election trail, much of Trump’s success was thanks to his tough talk on the broken U.S. immigration system, and how it is made worse by a non-existent border wall.

Trump’s response to the caravan has been swift, challenging origin countries to get tough on their own population or lose U.S. aid. Unfortunately, it has done little to stem the tide of migrants joining in.

If these countries thought this was a hollow threat, they’re dead wrong.

Trump issued a follow-up tweet days later after the caravan continued without being stopped. It’s unclear whether he will reduce payments or end them for these countries entirely.

This caravan is virtually guaranteed to remain on front pages. The election is looming and the Democratic Party is working to solidify their hyped “blue wave.” With the migrants beyond the Mexican border and headed to America, the ball will soon be in Trump’s court.
