CNN Hack Demands Sarah Sanders Shell Out Cash To Pay for Her Personal Bodyguard
The liberal biased mainstream media declared war on Donald Trump almost from the moment he declared his candidacy for the presidency, and Trump has not shied away from that fight one bit, taking the “fake news” media head-on in near-daily battles.
The constant state of rhetorical combat — unfounded accusations and personal smears hurled toward Trump, insults and retorts of “fake news” slung right back at the media — has seen a sharp and shocking rise in harsh vitriol, and some on both sides have received serious threats of harm from supporters of their rival.
Some of those threats are reportedly so serious that targeted individuals have felt compelled to utilize the protective services of bodyguards — Secret Service or federal agents for members of Trump’s administration, private security guards or police details for members of the media and liberal politicians.
The Daily Caller reported that one particular journalist who claims to have received death threats because of her contentious relationship with the Trump administration is White House correspondent April Ryan, who works for both CNN and American Urban Radio News.
Ryan, who appears to have absolved the liberal media of any responsibility for the increasingly tense situation between the media and administration, places the blame for her security needs squarely at the feet of the president she consistently attacks and even demanded in a recent interview that the White House foot the bill for her bodyguards.
That bold request came in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, during which Ryan asserted that Trump’s White House “put a target on my head” and revealed that she’d felt the need to hire professional bodyguards for her safety.
Ryan is promoting a new book — go figure — titled “Under Fire: Reporting From the Front Lines of the Trump White House,” seemingly likening herself to some sort of combat reporter who quite literally place themselves in mortal danger to report a story.
Speaking of her reasons for writing the book, Ryan stated, “I’ve been under attack. And lied on. Treated terribly. And if I don’t tell the story, you won’t get it.”
She suggested the Trump White House — and likely the president’s supporters as well — were still angry over her ridiculous “Are you a racist?” question posed to the president, and further claimed to have been placed on a “blacklist” of reporters Trump doesn’t like, such as CNN’s Jim Acosta and Kaitlan Collins.
She spoke about how she blamed Trump for the bad relationship between the media and White House and revealed that she and press secretary Sarah Sanders have attempted to “reset” their contentious relationship, obviously without much success.
As to the threats she has received, Ryan was asked if she is approached at random while out in public — something California Rep. Maxine Waters encouraged Democrats to do to Trump administration members — and Ryan replied, “Oh, I get approached a lot, when I’m walking from my car, when I’m walking to my car, when I eat. Anywhere I go. I mean, they have put a target on my head, and I don’t know who’s who sometimes. It’s an interesting dynamic.”
“I’ve had some people wait for me outside the White House … there is a concern now. I mean, I’ve had death threats, I’ve had craziness, so I have a real concern,” she continued with regard to the threats she’s received.
“An honest, real concern … Do I have a bodyguard? Yes, I do. Am I paying for it? Yes, I am,” Ryan added. “And, I think (Sanders) should have to pay for it, especially if she’s stirring it up with her boss … I did not sign up for this. I was just doing a job.”
Except, she did “sign up for this” when she took the job as a journalist and agreed to cover the White House as a correspondent, a rather public position that has always come with a modicum of inherent danger. That is not something this or any White House is necessarily responsible for, or should be held financially accountable for either. Instead, that rests with her and her employers.
The fact that she has been so vehement in her opposition to the White House, as well as the fact that she works for the likes of viciously anti-Trump CNN, only compound that danger in light of the ramped-up rhetoric and increasingly violent vitriol.
To be sure, Ryan should not have to hire bodyguards because she is receiving death threats, as she shouldn’t be receiving any sort of threats in the first place — and we wholeheartedly condemn any type of threat of violence against a member of the media.
But she can’t cast all of the blame on the administration and act as if she is innocent or unconnected to the deteriorating relationship between the administration and media, nor shift away the resulting need for security in case of violent threats that has come about in part by the actions of her and her media comrades.
