Dem. Pres. Candidate Gillibrand Claims NRA Sells Guns to Terror Suspects

Share

During a Fox News town hall on Sunday, Democratic presidential candidate Kirsten Gillibrand tore into the National Rifle Association, calling it the “worst organization in this country.”

Her thought process behind the heavy-handed, kooky statement is downright false.

According to The Blaze, the senator from New York said that the NRA cares “more about their profits than the American people, they care more about selling guns to someone on the terror watch list or with a grave mental illness or who has a violent criminal background.”

Oh, goodness. It appears Gillibrand might be desperate for media attention, as her 0.2 percent average poll numbers — according to RealClearPolitics — could be taking a toll on her sanity and political ambitions to become president.

Regardless of her mental state, Gillibrand’s lies about the NRA are easily debunked.

First, the NRA — which promotes the Second Amendment and firearms safety — is a non-profit organization.

Second, the NRA does not sell guns. If it did, it would be breaking the law and would cease to exist as an organization.

Here’s the clip from Gillibrand’s Fox News town hall appearance:

Do you think Sen. Gillibrand stands a chance in the 2020 race?

It’s one thing to disagree with the values of an organization, but it’s another thing to slander it with lies and deceit.

The NRA’s response to Gillibrand’s fake news comments was quick-on-the-draw. The organization released a letter Gillibrand wrote to NRA-ILA Executive Director Chris Cox during her tenure as a representative in upstate New York.

It turns out, she liked the NRA and the Second Amendment back in 2008.

“I want to be very clear that I always have and always will believe that the correct interpretation of the 2nd amendment is that it applies to an individual’s right to carry guns, and does not apply generally to the National Guard or a group of individuals in a State,” Gillibrand wrote to Cox.

She then expressed opposition to the idea of “outright banning firearms for cosmetic features, bullets of an random size, or banning magazines from holding an arbitrary number of cartridges.”

In conclusion, Gillibrand wrote, “I appreciate the work that the NRA does to protect gun owners rights, and I look forward to working with you for many years.”

That’s quite a different tune from what the senator happens to be singing these days. It looks as if the NRA just won another battle in the ongoing war against hypocritical and desperate liberal politicians.
