Democrats' Waffling on Anti-Semitism Is Already Costing Them As New Movement Forms Among Jews

Share

The Democratic Party in Congress brought controversy down upon itself once again after it utterly failed to denounce anti-Semitism following repeated offensive remarks from one of its new members.

What had initially been intended as a narrow condemnation of anti-Semitism and a specific rebuke of Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar for her litany of anti-Semitic comments ended up being a watered down and meaningless denouncement of “hate” and bigotry in general, and that has more than a few aggrieved Jews looking on in absolute disdain.

In fact, The Daily Wire reported that the manner in which House Democrats botched the effort to condemn anti-Semitism only served as fuel on the fire of a growing movement known as “Jexodus,” or the exodus of Jewish millennials from the Democratic Party.

Coming on the heels of the broader #WalkAway movement of people leaving the Democratic Party, which spurred more specific sub-movements such as “Blexit” and “Lexit” — black exit and Latino exit, respectively — is this new movement devoted to Jews who no longer feel welcomed in the party that a plurality has long called a political home.

The website of the upstart Jexodus movement states, “We are proud Jewish Millennials tired of living in bondage to leftist politics. We reject the hypocrisy, anti-Americanism, and anti-Semitism of the rising far-left.”

“Progressives, Democrats, and far too many old-school Jewish organizations take our support for granted. After all, we’re Jewish, and Jews vote for Democrats. Until today,” the website added.

The description of the group proceeded to point out how young Jews had seen anti-Semitism first hand on college and university campuses, particularly via the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement that targets the nation of Israel.

The group boldly declared, “We’re done standing with supposed Jewish leaders and allegedly supportive Democrats who rationalize, mainstream, and promote our enemies. We’d rather spend forty years wandering in the desert than belong to a party that welcomes Jew-haters.”

The Daily Wire noted the significance of the movement, should it catch on and prove successful, in that the Democratic Party has seemingly taken the Jewish vote for granted for decades, as the party has received the plurality of Jewish votes in every single presidential election since the nation of Israel was founded in 1948.

That’s despite the fact that the Republican Party has long held substantially more pro-Jew and pro-Israel policy positions than their Democratic counterparts.

That said, the Democratic Party has admittedly been more polished and successful in pressing a victimized minority narrative around Jews that has served them well to draw Jewish voters into the fold.

The Jexodus movement received a “soft launch” at the recent Conservative Political Action Conference, but organizers told The Daily Wire that the movement would time the official launch to coincide with the Jewish holiday of Passover, symbolizing the view that young Jews are fleeing the bondage imposed on them by the Democratic Party’s increasingly leftist agenda.

The movement was first dreamed up by Jewish Republican activist Jeff Ballabon, with help from another activist named Bruce Abramson. Ballabon has been credited with founding the now-annual Jewish Shabbat at CPAC, as well as helping formulate a more pro-Israel platform for the Republican Party in 2016.

The public face of the movement and national spokesperson is a Jewish woman named Elizabeth Pipko, who is affiliated with President Trump’s 2020 re-election campaign. She told The Daily Wire that her hope is to “get Jews to stand up for themselves and what their religion stands for.”

She further described how the movement would help push back against overt liberal media bias, such as the incessant portrayal of President Trump as an alleged anti-Semite while ignoring actual instances of anti-Semitism from Democrats and the left, such as the repeated bigoted remarks of Rep. Omar.

It remains to be seen how successful this Jexodus movement will prove to be. But considering the dismal manner in which Democrats have handled their own growing anti-Semitism problems and increasing animosity toward Israel, it would seem that the ground is prepared for a mass exodus of Jews from the party that has never been witnessed before.
