Double Standard: Media Calls Pelosi's SOTU Jab a 'Power Move,' Trump's Response the 'Low Road'

Share

The establishment media’s bias against President Donald Trump is obvious in their coverage of Trump’s battle with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

On Wednesday, Pelosi took a jab at Trump by suggesting that his State of the Union address should be canceled because of the government shutdown.

Pelosi wrongly asserted that the U.S. Secret Service would be unable to adequately defend the president while the shutdown rages on.

It’s obvious that security wasn’t Pelosi’s main concern; her primary goal was to stop the president from speaking to the nation again.

Pelosi’s petty jab at the president was widely praised by the left-wing establishment media.

Both CNN and The Atlantic used the phrase “power move” to describe Pelosi’s attack.

“Sometimes the best power moves in politics are conveyed in the most mundane language,” CNN Editor Chris Cillizza wrote.

The Atlantic covered Pelosi’s attack with the headline: “Nancy Pelosi’s Power Move on the State of the Union.”

But the same writers at the same media outlets criticized Trump for his response to Pelosi.

Trump responded to Pelosi by postponing her trip to Brussels, Egypt and Afghanistan just before she planned to leave on Thursday.

“Due to the Shutdown, I am sorry to inform you that your trip to Brussels, Egypt, and Afghanistan has been postponed. We will reschedule this seven-day excursion when the Shutdown is over,” Trump’s letter to Pelosi read.

“In light of the 800,000 great American workers not receiving pay, I am sure you would agree that postponing this public relations event is totally appropriate. I also feel that, during this period, it would be better if you were in Washington negotiating with me and joining the Strong Border Security movement to end the Shutdown,” he continued.

“Obviously, if you would like to make your journey by flying commercial, that would certainly be your prerogative.”

Not surprisingly, Cillizza didn’t call Trump’s words a “power move.” Instead, he slammed Trump for taking the “low road.”

“Taking the low road. Always,” Cillizza tweeted Thursday.

Did Cillizza expect Trump to let Pelosi walk all over him?

Even if Trump took the “high road” in this situation, he would have been slammed by the media for showing weakness.

Coverage from The Atlantic wasn’t much better.

The left-wing outlet characterized Trump’s move as a “retaliation” and referred to the rivalry as “vengeful.”

Do you agree with Trump's response?

Why is Trump’s “retaliation” not worthy of being praised as a “power move” by the media?

We already know the answer to that question. It’s because the establishment media is blatantly anti-Trump.

The discrepancy in tone between the coverage of Pelosi’s jab and Trump’s response is just further proof of the media’s blatant bias.
