Is This the Most Powerful Anti-Sanctuary City Testimony Ever?

Share

Sanctuary cities have been the bane of immigration reform advocates for quite some time now, particularly given that many of America’s largest metropolitan areas fall under that category.

Opponents say that sanctuary cities cost citizens money, promote crime and disregard the rule of law. Those are all very good in the abstract, but it’s hard for us to conceptualize just what that actually means.

If you need the reality of the situation brought home to you, this testimony by a Hispanic woman at the public hearing for California’s sanctuary state bill should tell you all you need to know about just how destructive such policies are.

The woman says she was there to represent her sister, “whose son was murdered a block away from my mother’s home 25 years ago.”

“I don’t think he was the first victim, but we’re the first families to speak out in the state of California,” she said, adding that she was “representing the angel mothers whose children have been slaughtered and murdered in our communities” by illegal aliens

She accused lawmakers of “making money off of our dead children” by pushing the bill, SB 54.

“You have weeping mothers! Weeping mothers, not just in California but across the United States!” she exclaimed. “It’s not here, it’s everywhere now!”

She implored politicians to “stop trying to blur the difference between legal and illegal.”

Do you think sanctuary cities should be ended?

“Big difference. We’re Americans,” she said through tears. “We live the American culture and we have the American spirit.”

“We don’t steal, we don’t lie, and we don’t take other people’s things. This man who was up here crying because he was locked up or something — these mothers, these families, their children are gone forever! They’re buried throughout California and the United States. Reuben was just 13-years-old. He was just starting. And a man grabbed him and blew out his brains.”

He wasn’t the only one killed by illegal aliens, either.

“Steven Woods was at the beach,” she continued, “How many of you have gone to the beach with a girl or walked the beach? He was surrounded and he had a (blunt object) plunged through his brain. Seventeen years old, Jameel Shaw, had a dream of playing football. And he doesn’t play — I’m sorry, but I have wept with these families.”

Did this woman’s powerful testimony make a difference? Sadly, not. Gov. Moonbeam signed SB 54 as soon as it passed the legislature.

“California’s local law enforcement cannot be commandeered and used by the Trump Administration to tear families apart, undermine our safety, and wreak havoc on our economy,” California Senate President pro Tempore Kevin de León, the sponsor of the bill, said upon its signing.

“The California Values Act will limit immigration enforcement actions at public schools, hospitals and courthouses where all California residents should feel safe, regardless of immigration status.”

Except, of course, for the ones murdered by the very people Sen. de León and Jerry Brown are protecting in their sanctuary state.
