Watch: K9 Makes Suspect Who Tried To Kidnap Infant Pay

Share

Most of us think of law enforcement officers as brave men and women who put their lives on the line every day. Seldom do we recognize their partners of the four-legged variety that also do a great service to the community by apprehending violent or dangerous criminals with no thought of their own safety or well-being.

One instance in particular shows us just how bravely and tenaciously K9s serve when bringing down the bad guys, and it’s an event one man from New Port Richey, Florida, isn’t likely to soon forget.

Titan is a K9 cop in the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office. He and his handler Sgt. Ferguson successfully apprehended a 24-year-old male kidnapping suspect on Monday by tracking him through a wooded area after he abandoned the car he was driving.

The dramatic arrest was caught on Sgt. Ferguson’s body camera.

The suspect, Kevin Wilson, was tracked by K9 officer Titan and multiple deputies after they received a call from a woman claiming there was an attempt to kidnap her 6-month-old baby.

The mother reported to deputies that Wilson climbed into her second-floor bedroom window. She ordered him to leave after allowing him in, but an argument ensued and Wilson grabbed the baby.

As WFLA reported, Wilson told the mother “You’ll never see her again,” and began to squeeze the baby tightly, appearing to choke her.

Wilson only released the baby after the woman’s uncle threatened him at gunpoint. He then fled the scene in a vehicle, ditching it shortly after to hide in the wooded area where police soon caught him.

Do you think K9 officers are valuable assets to law enforcement?

The Daily Mail reported Titan picked up Wilson’s scent as a helicopter unit located him from the air.

“Roll over or we’re not taking the dog off!” a deputy shouts to Wilson during the arrest.

Several schools in the area were reported to have been on lock down during the search for Wilson.

Wilson is now facing charges of child neglect, violating a no contact order, interference with custody and violation of pre-trial release.

So the next time you thank a law enforcement officer for their bravery and service, don’t forget to include the K9 cops as well. I’ll bet there is at least one mother in Florida who is grateful for the bravery of Pasco County’s K9 officers.
