Not Joking: Obama Just Announced His Latest Plan: Create 'a Million Baracks & Michelles'
Now, this is what narcissism looks like.
Former President Barack Obama, a man who spent eight years dragging down his country’s economy at home and its image abroad, has a vision for the future that might thrill his benighted supporters but should have sane people shaking their heads.
Spoiler alert: It involves a lot more of Barack Obama — and his wife.
In a speech Monday in Winnipeg, Canada, Obama talked about one thing he’ll be trying to accomplish at a $500 million presidential center the Obama Foundation is building in Chicago, according to the Washington Examiner.
He wants to create a “university for social change” (probably like the kind of “change” Americans endured during the eight disastrous years of his administration).
And he wants it to teach young people from the United States and abroad to follow in Obama’s own footsteps.
“If we train them — if we give them skills, support, financing, media training, spotlights, then they’re the ones that are going to carry forward the solutions that we so desperately need,” Obama said, according to the Times.
Then he hit on the narcissism.
“If we could form a network of those young leaders, not just in the United States, but around the world, then we got something, if we can train a million Baracks and Michelles who are running around thinking they can change the world,” he said.
We’ll have something all right.
We’ll have a million more arrogant leftists dead set on changing the country for the sake of “progress.” A million more loudmouths without any real appreciation for the blessings of liberty that the men who wrote the Constitution tried to secure for their posterity.
Actually, that sounds like the Democratic Party we already have, but they’ll all now look and sound like a pompous former University of Chicago law professor and his shrill, entitled wife.
Maybe Democrats think that sounds good.
But here’s the thing. Obama has said this kind of thing before (almost exactly a year ago, according to a CNN report from 2018) and it’s gotten barely a passing mention, much less the kind of derisive commentary it deserved.
If President Donald Trump had said anything remotely as self-aggrandizing, we would never have heard the end of it.
Trump has been gashed repeatedly for trumpeting the legitimate gains his administration has made in only two years — in the face of relentless media hostility and a political opposition that will stop at nothing to try to make up for the election loss of 2016.
Unemployment in the United States is at a record low — including among the minority groups Democrats claim to care for. The economy is still booming, and even if his second summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un fell through in February, Trump has been making strides on foreign policy:
The barbaric terrorists of the Islamic State group, which seemed on their way to establishing an actual “caliphate” in the last, impotent years of the Obama presidency, are all but nonexistent; there has been no nuclear testing or missile firing from North Korea in more than a year; the move of the U.S. Embassy to Jerusalem established once again that the United States is the permanent ally of the only democracy in the Middle East.
Against that, all the Obama Democrats can show is Obama’s eight-year record of bullying conservatives at home with federal agencies like the IRS, and caving to bullies abroad — from the pitifully failed “reset” of U.S.-Russia relations under former secretary of state Hillary Clinton, to Obama’s own disgraceful Iranian nuclear deal, that would have all but guaranteed a nuclear-armed Iran by the end of the next decade.
A million more opportunities to repeat that kind of record?
The United States doesn’t need that. The world doesn’t need that.
But for a blindly arrogant narcissist, it looks like the answer to everything.
