Watch: 'Superior Teacher' Demands 200+ Tanks To Take Back School

Share

There has been much discussion in recent months and years about school security and keeping students safe from harm, and for good reason, as our nation’s vulnerable children are the future.

They deserve to be kept safe while receiving an education in preparation for that future.

Amid this heightened sense of precaution for vulnerable school students comes a rather odd and disturbing video from a self-described homeless man who is believed to reside in the Washington, D.C., area and has made what have been construed as threats toward a specific school and school district in southern Florida.

According to the Miami Herald, that man is David Givens, a former teacher at the North Hialeah Elementary School in the Miami-Dade Public Schools district, who was fired in 2014 after 13 years of teaching due to “teacher certification issues” and now seems prepared to reclaim his position at the school, by force if necessary.

In a rambling five-minute video posted to YouTube, Givens declared himself to be a “superior teacher” to the “Cuban terrorists” who “seized” the school district in 2014 and demanded the U.S. government supply him with “200-plus armored tanks to seize North Hialeah Elementary School and Miami-Dade County Public School Board building.”

Givens began by criticizing as “fake” a number of government agencies and officials at the federal and local level in Florida — as well as former President Barack Obama and former Attorney General Loretta Lynch, who he called “tokens” — and especially called out the “phony” Cuban teachers who he claimed “seized” the schools in 2014.

“I am Mr. Givens, David Givens, the superior human being that will ever exist, the best intellectual athlete that will ever exist, the most honorable,” stated the man while standing inside a noisy shopping mall.

Givens then “ordered” President Donald Trump to assign him “armored tanks” with which he could “reclaim” the school and district from the “Cuban terrorists” who now control it. He further made clear that he was acting individually and not as part of any group, yet demanded that he be provided the “200-plus armored tanks” without any accompanying military personnel, as they’ve been “disrespected” by the Cuban peoples already.

Should this man be detained and closely monitored by mental health authorities after he issued this threat?

According to WPLG, Givens then oddly apologized for having not killed anybody’s children while he was teacher. He stated, “I apologize to the FBI, CIA, Florida Department of Education, Department of Justice for not killing people’s children. I didn’t go to college to get a college degree in elementary education to kill people’s children, so I apologize to you all for that.”

Givens later stated, “I have bigger and greater things to accomplish in life. I do have the right to show that I am the superior teacher that will ever exist, the best athlete that will ever exist. I am the most honorable human being to ever exist.” He proceeded to say that his “home” was the school that had been “seized” by “Cuban terrorists” and once again demand of the president that he be supplied with armored tanks to reclaim the school.

Unsurprisingly, the Miami-Dade Public Schools system has taken the threat issued by Givens seriously and released a statement intended to reassure parents that their children would be safe in their schools.

“While we cannot ascertain the validity of these concerning messages, Miami-Dade County Public Schools has taken all possible precautions to ensure that there is no imminent risk to students and employees of the school,” said district spokeswoman Daisy Gonzalez-Diego in a statement.

“The school district is working in cooperation with the FBI, the U.S. Secret Service, the Miami-Dade Police Department’s Homeland Security Bureau, the Miami-Dade state attorney’s office and law enforcement authorities in Hialeah and Washington, D.C. Parents and employees have been notified of the situation. A full-time Hialeah police officer, as well as an armed guard, are assigned to the school.”

According to WTVJ, detectives have reportedly located the former teacher in the D.C. area and made contact with him, though it is unclear if they detained him or not. An unnamed official stated that Givens is currently under surveillance.

This man’s rambling threats would seem to indicate some sort of mental illness, which authorities will hopefully take into consideration as they deal with the threats he has issued.

The fact that this man, who apologized for not killing children and wants to lead armored tanks against a school, was once an elementary school teacher is more than a little bit concerning, and while we hope he gets the help that he obviously needs, we also pray that he gets nowhere close to any children for the foreseeable future.
