Ex-NFL player forced to issue apology after viral photo with daughter and gun

Share

The politically correct police have struck another blow.

This time, it wasn’t a racially insensitive phrase, monument or moment.

No, the PC police have now taken their ideological fight straight to dad humor.

Former NFL kicker Jay Feely recently took to social media to share with his followers a sweet moment in his daughter’s life.

As is clearly visible, Feely took a photo with his daughter and her boyfriend as the couple was about to go to prom. Nestled between the two, Feely has one hand on his daughter’s shoulder.

His other hand? It’s carrying a handgun.

The joke Feely was trying to tell is an obvious one and a fairly common trope for anyone who’s ever seen a teenage prom movie. Feely was “threatening” his daughter’s boyfriend and giving him the classic “If you do anything to my daughter, there are going to be problems” talk.

It’s a dated joke and its humor is wholly subjective. That being said, possibly unfunny joke aside, Feely’s post is about as innocuous of a fatherly post as one will find on social media.

That didn’t stop the critics from swarming.

Unsurprisingly, Feely capitulated to the mob, posting a swift apology when the negative backlash first began.

Yes, Feely probably shouldn’t have posted that photo with gun control being so hotly debated in America currently. But he didn’t break any laws and seems to have exhibited good gun safety.

Excoriating the man for posting a dumb joke of a prom photo with his daughter and her boyfriend? That’s just beyond asinine.
