Josh Allen Has Perfect Response to Jalen Ramsey's Vicious Attack

Share

Over the past year Jalen Ramsey has inserted himself into the discussion for the best cornerback in the NFL thanks to his play on the field.

He was first-team All-Pro in 2017 as the Jaguars posted the league’s second-best defense. His peers also recognized him as Ramsey was voted the best cornerback in the league and ranked at No. 17 in the NFL Network’s annual Top 100 list.

In addition to his play, Ramsey has also made headlines with his mouth, such as when he guaranteed a Jacksonville Super Bowl victory before the Jags had even played in the AFC Championship Game. We all know how that turned out.

But the most provocative comments Ramsey has made came in the form of a GQ interview published this week. The former Florida State Seminole called out pretty much every NFL quarterback and didn’t mince words when ripping apart Buffalo Bills rookie Josh Allen.

“I think Allen is trash,” said Ramsey. “I don’t care what nobody say. He’s trash. And it’s gonna show too. That’s a stupid draft pick to me. We play them this year, and I’m excited as hell. I hope he’s their starting quarterback. He played at Wyoming. Every time they played a big school — like, they played Iowa State, which is not a big school in my opinion because I went to Florida State, and he threw five interceptions, and they lost by a couple touchdowns or something like that.

“He never beat a big school. If you look at his games against big schools, it was always hella interceptions, hella turnovers. It’s like: ‘Yo, if you’re this good, why couldn’t you do better?’ He fits that mold, he’s a big, tall quarterback. Big arm, supposedly. I don’t see it, personally.”

Allen never played against Iowa State, but he did play against Iowa. Ramsey may have gotten his schools mixed up, but he wasn’t wrong about Allen’s struggles against bigger schools. The Hawkeyes held him to 174 yards passing with two interceptions and no touchdowns and won 24-3. Wyoming faced three Power 5 teams during Allen’s time as starting quarterback (Iowa, Nebraska, Oregon). In those three games he combined for one touchdown, eight interceptions and 10 total turnovers.

When asked about Ramsey’s insults, Allen took the high road in his response.

“That’s the first I’ve heard of it,” the rookie said. “He’s not on my team, he’s not my teammate. It don’t bother me.

Allen was then asked how he deals with general criticism from other players.

Do you like Josh Allen's response to Jalen Ramsey's insults?

“I don’t care,” he said with a laugh. “It doesn’t bother me one bit. I care about my teammates and what my teammates think of me. When I step on the field ultimately I’m trying to win football games and trying to be the best quarterback for this team as possible.”

It was a classy response from the 22-year-old quarterback, but as a competitor he surely looks forward to his first opportunity to make Ramsey eat those words.

The two teams will square off in Week 12, and there’s a good chance that Allen could be the Bills’ starting quarterback by then.

After starting training camp as the third-team QB, Allen was promoted and worked exclusively with the second-team offense in practice earlier this week.

He is still behind A.J. McCarron on the depth chart, but it wouldn’t be a surprise if Allen were to leapfrog him and become the starter at some point this season.
