Prince Charles Steps In To Walk Meghan Markle Down Aisle After Her Father Backs Out

Many people believe that their wedding day will be the biggest day of their lives. Weddings come in all shapes and sizes, but each one is designed to fit the uniqueness and story of the particular couple.

For royalty, the affair is sure to be on a grand scale. Every detail will be handled by an elite team of planners, and there are probably contingency plans for every single aspect.

But aside from choosing the food and the dresses and the colors, the people involved are the most personal element.

And on this magical day, the wedding party and the person who will walk you down the aisle is of crucial importance.

Most women have their fathers walk them down the aisle and hand them off to their new husband. That was certainly Meghan Markle’s original plan.

Meghan Markle’s father, Thomas Markle, was set to walk her to Prince Harry during the ceremony, but a series of events tracing back to April of this year has changed that.

Thomas Markle was apparently upset with the images that paparazzi were taking of him and using for publishing purposes. He thought they captured his worst moments and made him look unsavory.

In an attempt to redeem his sullied reputation, he agreed to let the paparazzi take photos of him. He now regrets his decision, but unfortunately, the damage has already been done.

He also reportedly suffered a heart attack recently. He managed to get out of the hospital in time to make it to the wedding but decided that it would be best if he stayed back and avoided embarrassing his daughter and new in-laws.

With that change of plans, which Meghan confirmed on Thursday, the position was open for the taking. People wondered who she would choose as a replacement — or if she would choose anyone at all.

As of Friday morning, the guest “father” has been announced: Prince Charles himself! He agreed to Meghan’s request, which is especially sweet because he has no daughters and wouldn’t otherwise have this opportunity.

The Kensington Palace Twitter account posted an update on the situation Friday morning.

“Ms. Meghan Markle has asked His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales to accompany her down the aisle of the Quire of St George’s Chapel on her Wedding Day. The Prince of Wales is pleased to be able to welcome Ms. Markle to The Royal Family in this way.”

With the royal nuptials less than 24 hours away, we hope that the bride-to-be will be able to relax and not experience any more hiccups!
