Mother's Post After Daughter Has Meltdown in Kitchen Is Perfect Example of 'Being With'

Share

Siblings have this quiet understanding with each other. There are times when no words need to be spoken and just “being with” your sibling is enough to calm you down.

Such is the case for Rachel Sherwood’s daughter. Elli was having a fitful night and just couldn’t seem to get her meltdown under control, according to Circle of Security International.

As Sherwood was trying to put the groceries away in the kitchen, Elli was having none of it.

She was melting down fast, and there was nothing that could quench the sadness that was overcoming her.

What Sherwood was about to witness next would stop her in her tracks.

As Elli started to meltdown and scream, over what no one can even remember anymore, her little brother stepped in and helped calm the entire situation.

As the calm little boy quietly munched on his chips, he sat down beside Elli. He reached out his tiny little hand and began to pat her back.

Just the act of Isaac “being with” his sister was enough to calm her down.

Do your children calm each other down?

Elli slowly calmed down and let her brother provide her with the reassurance that everything would be OK without even saying a word to each other.

Isaac didn’t even stop eating his chips during the whole episode. He just knew he had to be there for his big sister.

Elli even put her head in Isaac’s lap, just the place that would make her feel safe and secure.

The two never spoke any words to each other during the exchange. Isaac just simply sat with his sister to let her know that everything would be alright.

Sherwood captured the moment with a few photographs, which she posted on Facebook.

She wrote, “Being with is simple. You don’t even have to put down the chips.”

Life is hard, and sometimes you just need to “be with” someone, including your brother or sister.
