Actor Hugh Jackman Responds to 10-Year-Old Girl's Emotional Plea About Bullying
“I feel so alone, I feel like I have no one. It hurts,” reads one of the cue cards held up by a 10-year-old girl in her plea to stop bullying.
Cassidy Slater posted an emotional video on Facebook — which has since been taken down because she is too young to have an account but reposted by her mother — where she holds up pieces of paper with her story written across them.
This little girl has been bullied since she was in first grade. She is now in fourth grade.
“The group of kids always come up to me during recess, trying to fight me. They hit me, kicked me, pulled my hair, pushed me, stepped on me, spit on me…” one card reads as Cassidy flips through her story.
She goes on to silently say that she feels so alone because kids don’t want to even be near her. “Whenever I sit at a lunch table, the kids get up.”
“They threaten to kill me, and they tell me to kill myself,” another heartbreaking card reads. “There’s 4 of them and only 1 of me.”
She ended the video with a card that read, “Stop bullying! Not just for me for other kids to. Please share my story!”
According to Cassidy, the principal hasn’t done anything to stop the problem. When Jenn Slater, Cassidy’s mom, reposted the video, she said that Cassidy “was threatened by the principal to remove the video or he was going to report it and he was successful.”
“But this does not stop here, I will be my daughters voice I will share her story and I hope others will share it too,” she wrote.
The original video, according to Jenn, reached over 22,000 views before it was taken down and “seeing that smile on Cassidy’s face each time the number of views and shares got larger that was everything.”
Warner Slater, Cassidy’s father, told ABC News, “I never once tried to put the blame on the school. The whole purpose was to let everybody see that these kids are not supposed to be feeling like this.”
Cassidy’s video has gained national attention and many people have commented on her mother’s Facebook page with words of encouragement for the 10-year-old.
Even actor Hugh Jack shared her video with a message for the bullied girl.
“Hi Cassidy …. I’m Hugh. I want you to know you’re loved, special & smart. You’re strong, funny & beautiful both inside and out.”
“BULLYING IS NOT OK. Please never stop asking for help. You will find it from people and places you never thought possible. I’m your friend.”
