Ellen Invites Yodeling Country Boy onto Stage. After Performance, Whips Out Gift that Makes Him Cry
Mason “Little Hank” Ramsey has caused quite a stir with his adorable performance in the aisle of a Walmart.
The 11-year-old from Golconda, Illinois has favored Hank Williams’ music after being introduced to it by his grandfather, Ernest Ramsey.
“Grandaddy always had Hank playing out in the garage,” Mason told The Southern in a 2017 interview. “I heard it so much I just started singing.”
“It was sorta like jumping in a pool,” Mason said of his natural ability to connect with Hank’s music. “You just start swimming.”
Mason is a natural performer and has been entering local talent competitions his entire life. He can sing an acapella tune with jaw-dropping power and has learned to play guitar, too.
A couple viral videos on social media have helped propel Mason’s budding career. On March 24, Mason was spotted singing at an Illinois Walmart, and social media user Dana Tanner stopped to take a video. “Best trip to Wal-Mart thanks to this young man,” Tanner wrote, posting the video that has since sparked excitement over the young man’s talent.
After the video went viral and inspired countless memes, Ellen DeGeneres invited him to appear on her show.
Mason rode on his first airplane on his way to Los Angeles and admitted to the host that though he’s enjoying his trip, “I’m a country boy.”
“And out in the old country, all we do is bale straws of hay, and next thing you know you’re sittin’ under a tree takin’ a nap with your hat down and a weed in your mouth.”
Mason then performed his cover of Hank Williams Sr.’s “Lovesick Blues,” before DeGeneres told the aspiring country star that she had a few surprises for him.
After he tipped his hat and bowed at the conclusion of his performance, DeGeneres told him that her friends at the Grand Ole Opry want him to perform for them on Saturday — which he confided to her was a dream of his.
“Oh my gosh!” he gasps, and looking at his backstage pass, Mason has to wipe away a few tears. He will also get to perform at a concert held at his local Walmart — where his rise to fame started — and it will be broadcast on Facebook.
DeGeneres finally presented the boy with a $15,000 check from Walmart to send Mason to college. Mason sure does have a lot to yodel about now!
