Carrie Underwood Uses Helium from Balloon To Sing Hilarious 'Happy Birthday' to Son
What do you imagine that the life of a musical superstar is like? I’d bet that most of us have a fairly romanticized view of what top-selling singers do.
Sure, we know that it’s not all fun and games. Yet I’d still wager that we tend to think they live suffused by the glow of adulation. Though, that’s just not true.
Consider Carrie Underwood, one of the top-selling country musicians. According to Biography.com, her debut album went multi-platinum (sold millions upon millions of copies in record time) incredibly fast.
In fact, no female-led country album had ever sold that much that fast. She has won Grammys, CMA and ACM awards.
In other words, Underwood is kind of a big deal, but even her life isn’t charmed.
We all know about the terrible fall she suffered that left her with a broken wrist and up to 50 stitches in her face. In addition to that, though, she also has to engage in some unglamorous work, which many of us are familiar: parenting.
E! News reported that she recently celebrated the birthday of her 4-year-old son Isaiah Michael Fisher. What do you imagine the highlight of the party was?
Did it involve surprise celebrity appearances? Did the singer and her hockey-star husband truck in acrobats with flaming batons or a bevy of dancing monkeys to entertain their tyke?
No, the highlight of little Isaiah’s celebration seemed to be his mother singing “Happy Birthday” to him. Only she did it in a way entirely appropriate for a little boy — with helium.
Fisher posted a video of the “performance” on his Instagram. It opens with Underwood holding a big yellow balloon in her right hand while safely cradling her 1-month-old infant, Jacob Bryan Fisher, with her left.

“Buddy, sit down,” Fisher says to his wiggling tyke as Underwood takes a huge gulp of helium. Then she turns to her son and begins to sing the iconic song.
All of Underwood’s trademark showmanship is there. Her head bobs and tilts as she croons.
She scrunches up her face in passionate intensity. She even closes out the ditty with an epic glissando, her voice sliding up and down the scale.
The only difference is that it sounds like it belongs on “Alvin and the Chipmunks.” Isaiah was obviously delighted at his mother’s hijinks, though.
Not only did he giggle, but he also grabbed for the balloon as the song ended. Underwood has shown that even celebrities need to play the part of mom.
