Stories about bullying come around too often. In many cases, bullies go too far and the victim ends up hurt or worse.

Which is why it’s so heartwarming to witness moments when students look past differences and share a little love and compassion.

The book “Wonder” by R. J. Palacio has an excellent quote that ought to be posted in every school hallway and on every bulletin board:

“Kinder than is necessary,” Palacio wrote. “Because it’s not enough to be kind. One should be kinder than needed.”

A pair of students from Mouaque Resettlement Elementary School in the Philippines have chosen to be kind to a boy with special needs.

The boy, Hans, has cerebral palsy and needs assistance in all areas of his life. His fellow students Yuan and Karl could have chosen to make fun of Hans or exclude him.

Instead they took a much higher path. They treat their friend with respect and compassion every day. Their kindness was captured in a video that has gone viral with nearly 2 million views to date.

Have you ever witnessed young students acting with such compassion?

The boys’ special education teacher Christine Lopez explained to Inquirer.net that when class began on June 3 she asked Yuan and Karl to help Hans when the time came to write or eat.

They didn’t complain and even helped Hans later on without any prompting from their teacher. In the video originally posted to Facebook, the boys can be seen sharing chips and even adjusting a fan.

“That day, they did it even if I have not told them to do so yet,” Lopez told Inquirer. “That’s why I felt so happy.”

“Thank you teacher Tin and classmates,” the boy’s mom, Jocelyn Erlasan, said according to the Newsflare caption on Rumble. “Now I know why Hans loves going to school every day.”
