Waitress Looks Down at Truck Driver's Receipts, Realizes He's Left $2,000 Tip
Mother’s Day may be over, but every day should be one in which we choose to show love and appreciation to the mamas in our lives. We all have a mom, or we know a mom, or we are moms, after all.
When it comes to raising kids, the struggle is real. Moms cook and clean and launder and organize — the list is neverending.
Stay-at-home or working, every mother faces the day-to-day challenges of caring for her children. It may look different for me than it does for someone else, but the simple truth remains that being a mom is hard work, no matter how you frame the job.
For mom Brenda Pearson, the task is no different. A waitress at the 4 Star Diner in Roland, Oklahoma, Pearson works hard to help support her family any way she can.
Previously a stay-at-home mom, Pearson made the decision to go to work after her move to Roland. Though she’d certainly rather be home with her kids, this mom had to work on Mother’s Day — a day that started just like any other.
That is until she encountered a truck driver with a to-go order. An order that ended with a huge surprise.
“I couldn’t believe it. I couldn’t hardly breathe,” Pearson shared. “It took my breath away.”
And rightly so. Wouldn’t you be speechless too if a stranger tipped you $2,000?
Yes, you read that correctly. A $2,000 tip on a small, diner-food order.
But there’s more to this man’s kindness than meets the eye. David Platt started with leaving Pearson $1,000 on his $11.16 bill.
When he returned for pie later on, a mere $4.23 tab, he included an additional $1,000 for the struggling waitress. But why?
“We talked about the Lord and about her life and her children,” Platt explained. “I got the impression that she was having a hard time of it, so I just thought I’d help her out a little bit.”
“It’ll help us get caught up on the move,” Pearson said. “It was just a Godsend.”
A Godsend, indeed. We need more people like David Platt in the world, that’s for sure.
Platt summed up his decision to help Pearson perfectly. “Money is just paper or numbers on a screen. Self gratification only goes so far. So, when you’re helping another person, you’re adding something to the world. It’s an investment and people, people are what’s important.”
