NFL player injures 4 after driving the wrong way in the Lincoln Tunnel

Share

As painfully obvious as this is to say, it’s never OK to drive under the influence of anything.

That being said, there are different degrees of driving drunk or otherwise inebriated.

It’s one thing to be swerving back and forth.

It’s another thing entirely to be driving the wrong direction in a major tunnel.

New York Jets rookie linebacker Dylan Donahue found himself in the latter situation when he was arrested early Monday morning for driving while intoxicated, per the New York Post.

Donahue was busted after he drove the wrong direction in the Lincoln Tunnel and collided head-on with a jitney bus in the center tube. The incident took place at about 2 a.m. local time.

Four people aboard the bus were injured, according to Port Authority spokesman Joe Pentangelo.

A Port Authority officer reportedly saw Donahue drive his Dodge Charger around traffic cones and go against traffic.

Donahue reportedly blew a .15 on a Breathalyzer. That’s nearly double the legal limit of .08 in New York.

Do you believe Donahue will be cut following this incident?

The 25-year old Donahue was also charged with reckless driving, along with his DWI. The minimum fine in New York for reckless driving is $300.

Fortunately, none of the four people injured were severely hurt. All were taken to Hoboken University Medical Center.

Donahue’s passenger was also charged with disorderly conduct.

Donahue was the Jets’ fifth-round selection in the 2017 NFL Draft. His rookie season was cut short after he suffered an elbow injury during a Week 4 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The rookie primarily served as a backup and special teams player, notching just five total tackles through four games.

It’s fair to wonder if the Jets will outright cut him after this incident.

During a time when the NFL is extra-conscious about its image, a fringe prospect with virtually no guaranteed money in his contract probably isn’t worth the negative PR.
