NFL Star Goes Against the Norm, Speaks Up for the Unborn in Passionate Pro-Life Speech

Share

The NFL justifiably gets a bad rap sometimes. It only takes a few bad apples to ruin the bunch, after all, and the NFL certainly has its fair share of them.

Whether it’s DUIs, allegations of domestic violence or substance abuse, the NFL never seems to have a shortage of negative PR. That’s to say nothing of the swathes of Americans who find national anthem protests abhorrent and disrespectful.

What doesn’t get nearly enough coverage, however, are the honestly good people in the NFL.

Superstars like New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees and Houston Texans defensive end J.J. Watt are exemplary human beings. They’re charitable, they do incredible good for their communities, and it doesn’t hurt that they’re two of the very best at their respective positions.

One name that flies even further under the radar than either Brees or Watt is Saints tight end Benjamin Watson.

The well-traveled veteran has played for the New England Patriots, Cleveland Browns, Baltimore Ravens and the Saints, while doing good at each stop. Watson also won a Super Bowl during his stint with the Patriots.

Suffice it to say, Watson has been a good player during his career. While he may not have the eye-popping numbers that could land him in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, he’s already enshrined in the Quality Human Being Hall of Fame.

In a video making the rounds on social media, Watson gave an impassioned speech advocating for unborn lives at the annual March for Life in Washington on Jan. 27, 2017. Live Action included a segment of the speech in a Twitter Post marking International Men’s Day on Monday.

Do more people need to hear this NFL player's message?

“Are you men out there?” Watson asked during the speech. It was met with raucous approval.

“Men, it is past time that we be the leaders, caretakers and providers that we were meant to be,” Watson said. “We, as men, must stand up for the lives of the innocent and their mothers in crisis.”

This is hardly a new stance for Watson. He has made his pro-life stance no secret, even going so far as to call abortion the “ultimate form of racism.”

Watson has also made no secret about how proud he is of his faith, having previously worn football cleats adorned with the cross.

“As important as women have been in championing this cause, you men, us men, must rise up and lead the charge,” Watson continued in the video. “Even if it wasn’t demonstrated for you by a father, you can be different. You can change the course of generations.”

Watson’s final line in the segment was met with the most uproarious response of the entire clip.

“Men! We can be silent no more,” Watson said.
