Nick Foles Reveals Tragic Family News, Shares Bible Verse

Share

Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Nick Foles shared heartbreaking news with the world Wednesday, posting on social media that his wife, Tori, had experienced a miscarriage with their second child.

Foles redirected people to his wife’s Instagram post, but he also shared a Bible verse in his tweet.

2 Corinthians 12:9 says, “But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.”

It’s a powerful quote from Foles, who has never been shy of sharing his deep faith on the biggest of stages.

Foles’ first words after leading the Philadelphia Eagles to their only Super Bowl win, over the dynastic New England Patriots, were, “All glory to God.”

Tori Foles shared the tragic details on Instagram.

“As several of you knew, we were about 15 weeks pregnant with our 2nd baby. Early Sunday morning after a rough couple days fighting a ‘virus’ of some sort, I went into sudden labor and knew something was wrong,” she said. “Not long after we learned we had miscarried our baby boy. To fully labor and deliver and even see our baby boy was a pretty devastating process.”

Tori Foles went on to divulge the details of what had happened, as well as expressing the same type of powerful faith that her husband so often displays.

“Come to find that I had contracted an infection of pneumonia in the blood,” she said. “The emotions go back and forth from immense and overwhelming sadness, confusion and anger to a firm belief that God has this fully in his hands and will use this for good. We cannot always understand or explain, but we know that is true.”

Our weekend together was not quite as planned, but blessed by their presence and the help they provided us with an unexpected set of circumstances that nick and I suddenly found ourselves in. As several of you knew, we were about 15 weeks pregnant with our 2nd baby. Early Sunday morning after a rough couple days fighting a “virus” of some sort, I went into sudden labor and knew something was wrong. Not long after we learned we had miscarried our baby boy. The emotions go back and forth from immense and overwhelming sadness, confusion and anger to a firm belief that God has this fully in his hands and will use this for good. We cannot always understand or explain, but we know that is true. We’ve endured some unique challenges as a couple so far, but never quite knew what something like this felt like and now we do. We have so much compassion and sensitivity to those who have gone through a miscarriage at any point and in any circumstance. We know they all happen very differently. We are finally home from the hospital and recovering physically from the infection with antibiotics (already much better) as well as emotionally from this traumatic loss. This will take time. So many thanks to everyone who has reached out to us and who has been praying for us. Also a heartfelt thank you to Baptist Beaches hospital staff in maternity. What an incredible team of doctors and nurses that took care of us the last 4 days. ❤️ Thank you Taylor family for being here this weekend. We had a pretty fun weekend planned, and it was turned upside down, but God knew we needed you. ❤️

Tori Foles went on to empathize with any family that has gone through the horrid pain of a miscarriage.

“We’ve endured some unique challenges as a couple so far, but never quite knew what something like this felt like and now we do,” she wrote. “We have so much compassion and sensitivity to those who have gone through a miscarriage at any point and in any circumstance. We know they all happen very differently.”

The quarterback’s wife said she was back from the hospital and doing much better physically. Emotionally, she said she was also doing better, but one can imagine how long the healing will take. She also thanked all those who had been praying for her and Nick during their ongoing hardship.

Thoughts and prayers swiftly poured in for the Foles family, including from other NFL players, such as the Patriots’ Benjamin Watson.

Foles, who signed a lucrative four-year, $88 million deal in March, will most likely be the starting quarterback for a Jaguars franchise looking to bounce back from a disappointing 2018-2019 season.
