'Nothing to Hide': Embattled House Republican Files for Ethics Investigation Into Himself
Under fire over domestic abuse allegations, embattled Rep. Max Miller, a Republican from Ohio, announced on Tuesday that he intends to file paperwork to launch an ethics investigation into himself to clear his name.
“In light of all the renewed interest in my family affairs I am going to file my own paperwork for an ethics investigation into myself to clear my name from these horrific attacks on myself and family,” the lawmaker wrote in an X post.
“I have absolutely nothing to hide. We will be providing the committee all necessary documents needed for a detail examination. The accusations continue to change, but my facts stay the same. I am looking forward to my colleagues reading everything for themselves,” he added.
The post to X was published three months after the Daily Mail unveiled a bombshell story containing abuse allegations from his ex-wife, Emily Moreno, the daughter of Republican Sen. Bernie Moreno of Ohio.

In the report filed on May 7, the Daily Mail published photos of Moreno that appeared to show bruises from injuries sustained during alleged acts of domestic violence perpetrated by her husband.
Moreno told the Daily Mail that the latest incident of violence occurred on Feb. 1, when her ex-husband allegedly struck her during a custody exchange at his home. The custody exchange involved their 2-year-old daughter.
The Daily Beast obtained confirmation from the Bay Village Police Department that their officers did respond to an incident at Miller’s home that day.
During an earlier incident that occurred in June of 2024, the lawmaker allegedly threw a pot of boiling water at his then-wife. Later that same day, he penned an apology letter in which he didn’t admit any abuse but did apologize.
“I don’t know what to do,” he wrote. “I do know you love me, protect me, and care for me. I failed to do that for you. I’m sorry and I just want to close my eyes and wake up and everything be normal.”
“I know that won’t happen. I’m sorry I failed you and Ruth. It’s eating me alive. I love you, even if you think I don’t. I love you so much. I’m so sorry. I’m just a f*** up and worthless,” he added.
In a lengthy thread published to X following the Daily Mail’s report, Miller denied all of the allegations against him:

Meanwhile, President Donald Trump phoned Miller on Aug. 3 to express doubts about his 2026 reelection campaign amid the Daily Mail’s reporting, according to Axios.
“On the call, the president told Miller that ‘things aren’t looking good’ and repeatedly said his reelection would be tough,” Axios reported. “Miller, who denies hurting his wife and child, told the president he is staying in the race.”
Miller also alleged that his campaign’s polling shows him in good shape politically.
Prior to the call, the president issued a public statement calling Miller’s predicament “a very sad thing.”
“I know Max, he’s a good person, I mean I always thought he was a very good person,” Trump said. “And I’m going to let the families figure that out.”
