Prince Charles Celebrates 70th Birthday 6 Months Early, Harry & Meghan Delay Honeymoon To Attend

It has been a busy weekend for the Royal family celebrating Prince Harry and Meghan Markles’ marriage, but the wedding was not the only big event planned for this week.

The Queen is hosting a garden party to celebrate Prince Charles’ 70th birthday … six months early. His actual birthday isn’t until November.

Why begin celebrating so early?

A 70th birthday is a big milestone for anybody and, in true royal fashion, there will be many celebrations leading up to Prince Charles’ actual birthday on November 14th, which will most likely be spent with a smaller, more intimate crowd.

Plus, a garden party will be much more enjoyable in late spring rather than late fall. The garden party set for May 22, 2018, is estimated to have about 6,000 guests in attendance.

Prince Charles has invited representatives from various charities and military organizations in order to thank them for their work.

The 386 charities Prince Charles supports will be represented as well as 20 of his military affiliations. One-hundred first responders to the Manchester Arena Bombing have also been invited.

According to a palace insider, Prince Charles “wasn’t comfortable with a big event that was just about him,” so he opted to turn the spotlight to the charities he has worked with closely.

The invitation read, “To coincide with the 70th Birthday of The Prince of Wales and with the gracious permission of The Queen, a reception is to be held in the gardens of Buckingham Palace to celebrate the work of His Royal Highness’s Patronages, Charities and Military affiliations and others involved in public service.”

This is similar to the garden party that celebrated the Duchess of Cornwall’s 70th birthday where she also recognized and thanked different charitable organizations.

Even though the event happens only three days after their wedding, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have announced that they will also attend the party.

This will be the couple’s first official engagement post-wedding.

The event will postpone their honeymoon plans, but the couple does not plan to cancel their plans to get away altogether. Jason Knauf, a spokesperson for Kensington Palace, confirmed, “The couple will be going on (a) honeymoon, but not straight away.”

It looks like the newlywed, royal couple is hitting the ground running!
