Redskins captain unloads hot take on Alex Smith trade so fiery he has to delete it
When dissecting a trade, judging what a team gave up is just as important as evaluating what a team obtained.
Big trades aren’t common in the NFL, but the Washington Redskins pulled one off Tuesday, reaching agreement with the Kansas City Chiefs to obtain quarterback Alex Smith in exchange for cornerback Kendall Fuller and a third-round draft pick.
Smith is obviously the headliner in the deal. The 12-year veteran is coming off his best season as a pro, throwing a career-high 26 touchdowns and just five interceptions as he helped lead the Chiefs to the AFC West title this season.
Fuller is far from a household name to most NFL fans, but he’s already proven himself to be an outstanding player. And while Redskins fans now know who their quarterback is going to be for the next five years, some members of the Redskins’ defense weren’t too happy about losing one of their best players.
Safety D.J. Swearinger went on Twitter Tuesday night, apparently not believing initial reports that Fuller had been traded.

Swearinger then used Twitter to rip the Redskins for including Fuller in the trade.
“Never Saw Any Bulls—- Like This In My Life!!” Swearinger said in a tweet. “… People say they wanna win right but you throw away your best defender!?!? Somebody you can set a standard with?!?! #Defense will win championships!!”
Swearinger then followed that up with another tweet where he claimed the Redskins’ defense took a “major step down” by dealing Fuller and that he meant “no disrespect to nobody on my squad or coming to my squad.”
Swearinger later deleted both tweets.
A few hours after the trade was announced, Swearinger extended his best wishes to Fuller at the next stop in his NFL career.

He also levied more criticism on the Redskins, wondering what criteria had been used in determining Fuller should be dealt.

The trade between Kansas City and Washington can’t be finalized until the beginning of the league’s 2018 business year, which starts March 14.
