Terri Irwin Reveals Reason She Hasn't Been on 1 Date Since Steve's Tragic Death

Share

Steve Irwin’s dedication to animal conservation made him a household name after his show The Crocodile Hunter, which began in 1994, launched him and his family into fame.

But in 2006, fans and family mourned the loss of the energetic host after his unexpected death at age 44. The animal lover left behind his wife of 14 years, Terri, and their two children, Bindi and Robert.

But Steve will never be forgotten by his family, who will always remember his loving presence and continue to honor him and his dedication to animals.

Back in 1991, Terri was an American tourist visiting Australia for her research when she met Steve. It was love at first sight.

She returned to Australia in 1992 to visit him, and the pair became engaged in February and were married by June that year. Two years later, the couple began co-hosting The Crocodile Hunter.

The first-ever episode of the beloved show even featured footage from Steve and Terri’s honeymoon, which they spent trapping crocodiles together.

From there, the adventures began, as the pair ran a wildlife refuge together and filmed for the show. In 1998, they renamed the refuge the Australia Zoo.

Recently, Terri revealed that she hasn’t gone on a single date since Steve’s devastating passing. And she doesn’t plan to any time soon, because she knows that her life with him was her fairy tale ending.

“I think it’s wonderful when people who have lost someone find love again, but I’m not personally looking,” she said. “And I haven’t been on a date in 27 years.”

Terri now runs the Australia Zoo with the help of Bindi, now 19, and Robert, now 14. The whole family is also gearing up to star in an all-new show on the Animal Planet in 2018.

And with so much to be thankful for, Terri is happy being single. “But I’m content,” she continued. “I have two beautiful kids, a really full plate. I’ve already had my happily ever after.”

“No matter the circumstances are that you lose someone, nobody’s truly prepared,” says Terri. “Steve’s accident was so unexpected, it was extremely challenging.”

But the family has worked throughout the years to preserve Steve’s legacy and carry on his work. Terri, Bindi, and Robert all continue to promote animal conservation as their dad did.

Last year, Bindi made a touching tribute to her father, almost 10 years after his passing. “Dad, you give me strength every day,” she wrote on Instagram.

“These memories will live with me forever. I miss you with all my heart but I’m beyond grateful for the time we had. I hope someday we are all together again. I love you.”

Although Steve passed 11 years ago, it is clear that the love he had for his family and his dedication to the conservation of animals will live on for generations.
