Virginia Lt. Gov.'s Story Already Falling Apart as WaPo Calls Out Pivotal Lie in #MeToo Defense

The irony is not lost on me.

Democrats will always be the first to point the finger at conservatives and Republicans.

Whether the right is being accused of being sexist, racist or whatever-ist, rest assured, Democrats will be the first to make a campaign out of it, regardless of the truth of the matter.

Look no further than the recent kerfuffle over the Covington Catholic students who were dragged through the mud because the far left saw an opportunity to pounce, without so as much a shred of context, and denigrate conservatives.

We all know how that turned out.

Through it all, it’s more than a little ironic that the Democrats are so eager to cast aspersions when they apparently can’t even keep their own house straightened out.

Ever since he became a national figure, thanks to an interview last week that suggested he approved of infanticide in some situations, Democratic Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam has been in all sorts of hot water — not just as part of the abortion controversy but all for having worn blackface sometime in his life.

To be fair, Democrats have come out and disavowed Northam’s blackface incident. But just as things seemed like they could be looking up for Democratic Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax to replace Northam, the Democrats once again proved that they may not necessarily practice what they so pompously preach.

Fairfax was accused of sexually assaulting a woman at the Democratic National Convention in 2004.

Fairfax’s chief of staff, Lawrence Roberts, and his communications director, Lauren Burke, promptly issued a statement vehemently denying the allegations and even attacking the integrity of the accuser.

“After being presented with facts consistent with the Lt. Governor’s denial of the allegation, the absence of any evidence corroborating the allegation, and significant red flags and inconsistencies with the allegations, (The Washington Post) made the considered decision not to publish the story,” the statement reads in part.

Yeah, about that.

In its coverage published Monday of the accusation against Fairax, The Washington Post basically called Fairfax and his team out for trying to pull a fast one.

“Fairfax and the woman told different versions of what happened in the hotel room with no one else present,” The Post reported. “The Post could not find anyone who could corroborate either version. The Post did not find ‘significant red flags and inconsistencies within the allegations,’ as the Fairfax statement incorrectly said.”

According to The Post, Fairfax acknowledged an encounter with the woman, but claimed it was consensual.

The woman tells the story differently, according to The Post:

“The woman described a sexual encounter that began with consensual kissing and ended with a forced act that left her crying and shaken. She said Fairfax guided her to the bed, where they continued kissing, and then at one point she realized she could not move her neck. She said Fairfax used his strength to force her to perform oral sex.”

The Post story acknowledged the newspaper could not find anything in Fairfax’s background that included similar allegations.

“Without that, or the ability to corroborate the woman’s account — in part because she had not told anyone what happened — The Post did not run a story,” the newspaper reported.

That’s a far cry from the defense Fairfax’s statement was suggesting — that even in the #MeToo era, The Post had found too many  “significant red flags and inconsistencies” to publish a story about the accusation.

The party that thought it could make the #MeToo movements its vehicle to political power is getting rolled by the movement now.

The irony probably isn’t lost on them, either.

Conservative Tribune reached out to Fairfax via Twitter for comment regarding the Post’s denial of his statement’s claims. We did not receive a response at the time of publication.
