Tim Tebow Makes 'Exciting' New Career Move Off the Field

Share

With his success on the baseball diamond, Tim Tebow proved that there is life after football.

Now, the former Heisman Trophy winner and NFL quarterback, last seen playing left field for the Double-A Binghamton Rumble Ponies, is adding a new line to his resume — executive producer.

Tebow and his brother Robby are producing a film called “Run the Race.”

The film is about two brothers whose father abandons them after their mother dies. One of the brothers, Zach, played by Tanner Stine, is a star football player who earns a college scholarship but suffers a devastating injury. Zach’s brother David, played by Evan Hofer, “laces up his track cleats to salvage their future and show what’s possible when you run to — instead of from — the love of God,” USA Today reported.

The film also stars Mykelti Williamson, Frances Fisher, Mario Van Peebles, Kristoffer Polaha and former NFL running back Eddie George, who plays a college recruiter. It’s directed by Chris Dowling.

“There are a lot of similarities in my life between two brothers supporting one another, having each other’s back, believing in one another,” Tebow told USA Today. “My family and my brother have always given me so much support. That’s made such a big impact on me being able to go after my dreams.”

Filming wrapped in April, and the movie is now in post-production. A theatrical release date has not yet been set.

“It’s exciting,” Tebow said. “I’ve received a lot of scripts over the years. But I haven’t always wanted to be in filmmaking. I want to do the right films, films that will encourage or inspire or move people.”

Both Tim and Robby filmed cameos, but they don’t know if they’ll make the final cut.

As for his future in film, Tebow said it’s something to consider.

“I have thought about it from time to time. I’m waiting for the right role that would click with my personality and my heart,” he told USA Today. “It’s something I would be open to maybe one day.”

Tebow’s successful 2018 minor league season came to an abrupt end on July 20 when he broke the hamate bone in his right hand in a game against Trenton.

“Every setback is just another opportunity for a comeback. I love and embrace that,” Tebow said. “I still had an exciting baseball season and it’s been a really fun ride. But I’m excited to be able to get back to work, heal this thing up, and get right back at it.”

At the time of his injury Tebow was hitting .273 with six home runs, 36 RBIs and a .734 OPS through 298 plate appearances. He made the Eastern League All-Star team and went 1-for-4 in the All-Star game. There was even serious talk about Tebow getting called up to play for the big league New York Mets at the end of the season.

But right now, the Tebow brothers are looking forward to seeing the premiere of “Run the Race.”

“That’s going to be a fun moment to have a premiere and we can watch it together,” Robby Tebow said. “I’m really looking forward to that.”
