Watch: Tim Tebow Kicks Off Spring Training with an All-Time Great Message to the Haters

Share

It is utterly baffling that Tim Tebow is as polarizing as he is.

Between his amazing charity work and outstanding character, it’s easy to see why Tebow has as passionate a fan base as he does.

It’s not nearly as clear why Tebow has the critics that he does.

Is it a matter of jealousy? A hatred of his proud faith? Or are his haters just sad and pathetic people with nothing better to do?

The answer is likely some combination of all the above.

Well, leave it to Tebow to put those haters on blast as only he can.

At a Mets media session hyping the start of MLB’s Spring Training, Tebow took to the stage and produced one of the best sports interviews, perhaps ever.

Tebow, who will play for the Mets’ Syracuse-based Triple-A team to start this year, was blunt, funny, honest and uplifting while speaking to the media horde.

Do you think Tim Tebow belongs in the major leagues?

“You’re always going to have critics and naysayers and people that are going to tell you that you won’t, that you can’t, that you shouldn’t,” Tebow said about critics. “Most of those people are the people that didn’t, that wouldn’t, that couldn’t.”

Ouch.

Tebow landed a direct hit on his naysayers, and he’s 100 percent correct.

Trying and failing is infinitely more preferable to never trying because your critics don’t think you can do it.

The former Heisman winner elaborated on that very point.

“Don’t be defined by outside sources. You go after your dreams,” Tebow said, before launching into what success and failure actually meant to him.

“Succeeding or failing is not making it to the bigs or it’s not necessarily fulfilling that. It’s having to not live with regret because I didn’t try.”

Tebow than implored the younger generation to reach for their goals no matter how impossible it may seem to the outside world, not unlike the scrutiny Tebow faced when he began pursuing a baseball career after an NFL career.

“I just feel for all the young people out there who don’t go after something because they are so afraid of failing that you are going to live with a lot more regret than you would’ve and you failed. I’m very passionate about that,” Tebow added.

Tebow then made it clear that the fear and doubt that can be instilled by critics wasn’t the way he wanted to live.

“I think the reason people don’t go after things is because how much you will be criticized. What if I fall flat on my face? So fear and doubt and all these things creep in. I just don’t believe that’s the healthiest way to live. I don’t want to have to live with fear or doubt every day, and regardless of what everybody here says about me. It doesn’t define me.”

You hear that, Tebow haters?

Your doubts and critiques don’t define him.

That’s as powerful as a rebuttal as you can give.
