Today Is the Biggest Day of the Year for Tim Tebow
No, Tim Tebow is not getting married Friday.
But that shouldn’t diminish a day that’ll likely mean almost as much to Tebow as any wedding day would.
That’s because Friday is the day for the Tim Tebow Foundation’s incredible “Night to Shine” event.
For the unaware, “Night to Shine” is a global prom for people with special needs. It’s Tebow’s way to uplift and honor all of them.
Started in 2015, the event has grown into a legitimate phenomenon. According to the Tim Tebow Foundation, this year’s “Night to Shine” will have 655 churches in 25 countries hosting more than 100,000 special-needs guests, with the help of 200,000 volunteers.
But more important than the event itself is the motivation behind it.
“These are people who need to know that they matter. They matter to other people. They matter to God,” Tebow said in 2015.
And it’s also not just speculation that Tebow “Night to Shine” is one of his favorite days of the year. In fact, he told People that it is his favorite.
“I’m just so excited about it,” Tebow told the magazine in 2018. “It really is my favorite night of the year. It’s definitely the most important thing I do — more important than sports, more important than any TV appearance. This is something that’s really helping to change the culture of how people with special needs are seen by their community.”
Tebow also stressed how passionate he is about the event, emphasizing just how much people with special needs matter to God.
“These people go through life not being celebrated,” he said. “This is one night where they’re all crowned as prom kings and queens.
“It’s something I’m very passionate about. And we’re finding that communities are starting to treat these people different all year around. It’s about changing the culture and showing that these people have value. They’re important. They’re important to God, and they’re important to me.”
Making things especially meaningful this year? It will be the first one Tebow is spending is with his fiancee, Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters.
Making things even more special? It’s through “Night to Shine” that Tebow and Nel-Peters first met.

“There’s very few things in life, where you truly feel like, you’re like, dang, this is exactly where I’m supposed to be and what I’m supposed to be doing, and I feel that every year on ‘Night to Shine,'” Tebow said in a promotional video, per Fox News.
Tebow might never win a World Series, and he almost certainly won’t win a Super Bowl, but it’s clear that these “Night to Shine” events will always mean far more to him than any championship.
