AG Barr says nationwide rulings are hampering Trump's agenda
WASHINGTON (AP) — Attorney General William Barr is taking aim at judges who issue rulings blocking nationwide policies.
Barr is speaking Tuesday night to the American Law Institute. He says judges who issue these so-called nationwide injunctions are hampering President Donald Trump’s agenda.
Barr’s comments are the latest example of the attorney general moving to embrace Trump’s talking points and enthusiastically supporting the president’s political agenda.
At a campaign stop earlier this month, Trump railed against “activist judges who issue nationwide injunctions based on their personal beliefs.”
Vice President Mike Pence said a few weeks ago the Trump administration intends to challenge the right of federal district courts to issue such rulings.
Barr says the nationwide rulings allow federal district court judges to “wield unprecedented power.”
