Mom Knows Baby Survived Crash Because of Her Constant Car Seat 'Nagging' to Husband

Worrywart. Nervous Nellie. There are lots of names for people who tend to dwell on the what-ifs and possibilities in life, especially the negative ones.

When you’re young, people might just say you have a big imagination, but the older you get, the more your nervous habits seem to annoy people.

But the fact of the matter is, if you’re good at coming up with what-ifs, you’re good at seeing possibilities and noticing things other people might not. As long as you use your powers for positive change and not to drive yourself nuts, it’s a very useful skill to have.

Especially for mothers. It’s a two-edged sword; there will be unnecessary worry at some points, yes, but potential disasters will also be prevented.

Rebecca Boyer knows all about that. And now she’s sharing her experience with the world on Facebook.

“Friends, let’s have a quick chat about something that some of my family members think makes me a super annoying overprotective mom – car seat safety,” she wrote on a post.

Her husband was taking out their baby during her first day back at work after maternity leave, and she wanted regular updates. “I demanded that my husband send me hourly updates and recaps on how baby William was handling his first day away from mommy,” she wrote.

So when dad sent her a photo with the baby snuggled into his car seat and napping, Rebecca immediately noticed that her child wasn’t fastened securely.

“This afternoon around 2:15, I got a text from my hubby during their trip to Walgreens,” she wrote. “My nagging wife reply was to correct William’s position in the car seat – the straps were too loose and the chest clip was way too low. And because I know my husband, I’m sure that he laughed at me and rolled his eyes before tightening the car seat and fixing the chest clip.”

All seemed well — baby was safe now thanks to her observation, and dad and baby could continue on their way with confidence.

Just 15 minutes later, her husband called her. ““Honey, we had a car wreck,” he said. “We are fine, but the car is going to be totaled.”

It wasn’t his fault. Some lady had tried to make a turn in front of him and didn’t time it properly. Rebecca’s husband ended up with broken and dislocated toes, and her precious child?

Hadn’t even woken up from the nap he was enjoying. Perfectly safe in his properly fastened car seat, the impact didn’t even bother him.

“I am so thankful that my husband took the extra one minute that was necessary to put William in his car seat safely,” she wrote. “I can’t even begin to imagine how different the outcome could have been.”

“I truly believe that the reason my family is at home sitting on the couch with a pair of crutches instead of down at the hospital is because of my annoying nagging mom voice.”

She also pointed out that car seats that have been through a “moderate to severe accident” are totaled as well. Safety guidelines state that once they’ve been through a wreck, a new seat needs to be bought (but your insurance might cover it!).

She closed her post with a summary and some shout outs.

“Tonight I am on my knees thanking God for watching over my two precious boys, thanking the amazing staff at Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital Emergency Department for checking out my little man so quickly, praising Britax for making an incredibly safe car seat, lamenting the loss of my beloved Volkswagen Jetta, and most of all thanking my husband – who has finally proven that yes indeed he is actually listening when I nag him!”
