Dad Sits for Days Outside Wife's Bedroom Door, Refusing To Leave Her During Her Cancer Battle

When a couple stands in front of family and friends before God and recite the words “in sickness and in health,” everyone hopes for the two to experience nothing but good health.

Unfortunately, it is impossible for one to expect to live a life completely devoid of disease, whether that be in oneself, in loved ones, or both.

There is no blueprint for how to navigate those situations where a loved one is affected by a serious illness.

All there is to do is to be a pillar of support and to let your significant other know they are loved despite their current state of malady, weakness, and vulnerability.

However, what about those diseases where it is dangerous and even deadly for the patient to be around other people?

When someone is placed in isolation, it can obviously become very lonely and hard to feel loved.

Furthermore, it is just as painful emotionally for those loved ones being kept away from their sick husband or wife and it is difficult to feel so helpless.

Mackenna Newman posted a picture on Twitter showing how her parents are coping with her mother needing to be isolated in their home, and it is melting hearts across the globe.

In Oct. 2015, Newman’s 49-year-old mother, Marci, was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. She has been receiving radiation therapy as a part of her treatment regimen which requires her to remain in isolation for long periods of time.

Unable to fathom not being able to spend time with his wife or her being alone for so long, Newman’s 45-year-old father, Jon, decided that his wife’s treatments would not stop him from being by her side. Even if he had to sit at the doorway.

Newman posted a picture of her father sitting in the hall outside the room where her mother was. The caption reads, “My mom has to stay in her room in isolation for her cancer radiation so my dad set up a desk at her door to keep her company and I’m crying.”

Apparently this is not the first time he has tried unconventional means of spending time with his wife while she has needed to remain in isolation. “At first he was sitting outside in the back yard in a chair and talking to her through the window,” Mackenna said.

The picture of her adoring father has gone viral for its powerful display of unconditional love.

Mackenna is surprised it has received so much attention because with her parents this love is evident on a daily basis and through all of the ups and downs they have needed to endure.

Marci certainly feels the love and devotion of her husband and says this is not unusual behavior for him. “Jon goes to every doctor’s appointment, every blood test, every surgery, every radiation,” Marci said about her loving husband. “And, as you can see, if he can’t be by my side he is as close as he can get!”

Mackenna says she has learned about the value of love through her parents’ example and there is no doubt we have caught a glimpse at what it means to truly love as well.

As for Marci and her treatments, she has been able to have surgery to remove the cancerous tumors but will still need to have regular checkups.

She hopes to return to her job as a sixth grade teacher soon. But something tells me she is looking forward to the next time she able to embrace her loving husband more.
