Cops Show Up To Teach 12-Year-Old Boy Lesson After He Calls 911 Twice About Salad
Most people are aware of how to contact their local emergency services. Even young children are drilled on how to dial the number so they can get assistance if the adult they’re with is incapacitated.
This has resulted in a lot of heroic stories of young children who have somehow managed to call when a parent collapses or some other disaster befalls them.
And then there are stories like this. Sure, teens and pre-teens often prank-call people, and emergency services are not exempt from those shenanigans.
Apparently, kids find something intoxicating about dialing 911 and rattling off an obnoxious line or giggling and hanging up.
That’s annoying, but then there are (apparently) some kids who don’t realize they’re doing the same thing without meaning to and seriously need to examine their definition of “emergency.”
A 911 call was made at around 10 p.m. on Tuesday in Novia Scotia, Canada. The caller was a 12-year-old boy in a desperate spot.
He explained to the operator that he was facing a horrible situation: his parents had given him a salad. Not only was it a salad, it was a salad that he did not like.
One call is bad, but the persistent young critic dialed back shortly after calling them.
Why? Because the police had failed to show up and rectify the situation after he’d specifically called in about his problem, and he wanted to know what gave.
Presumably, the parents were not aware of what was happening, because when the cops did show up, they were appalled.
“Parents were not impressed,” Corporal Dal Hutchinson said. “The 12-year-old boy, well, he was not aware that this was not an acceptable reason to call 911.”
But boy, did he learn. The officers were kind enough to use the opportunity to teach the young man about actual reasons to call 911 and decided not to saddle him with the $697.50 fine.
“While many can relate to the dislike of a salad at times, this raises a more important issue that warrants discussion at all ages,” Hutchinson said.
“The improper use of 911 is an issue with all age groups and it ties up valuable resources, preventing emergency first responders from dealing with real emergencies.”
Hopefully everyone benefited from the little chat they had, and this boy will learn to gauge his emergencies a bit more accurately.
