Country Singer Walker Hayes shared heartbreaking news on June 6, 2018.

He and his wife, Laney, were expecting their seventh child but just announced that Oakleigh Klover Hayes was born Wednesday morning and is now “safely in heaven.”

The couple was preparing for a home birth for the June 8 due date. Based on their past six experiences, they liked the idea of not having to drive to the hospital mid-labor.

In an interview, Hayes admitted that he gets nervous during labor. “We’ve almost had a couple in the car, and I’m not the guy you want to have a kid in the car with. I’m pretty chill, but once birth starts I go the opposite of chill.”

The country artist’s family has always been an integral part of his career.

“Family is first me,” Hayes said. “In my opinion, my business runs better when my family is a part of it, and I get to see my wife and kids, that makes me a better artist.”

He also attributes his success to the support he receives from his wife. She encouraged him to continue to pursue his dream and never told him to “grow up.”

He even posted this sweet picture of her on Mother’s Day. “I mean we only have 6 kids…it’s not like she really does that much… Happy Mother’s Day Laney,” the caption read.

The two high school sweethearts were last pictured in Las Vegas at the 53rd Academy of Country Music Awards on April 15.

In a statement released by the singer, he said, “It is with great sadness that Laney and I share with you the news that our sweet Oakleigh Klover Hayes was born this morning at the hospital and now is safely in heaven.”

“Thank you for honoring our privacy as we grieve,” he continued. He has canceled upcoming engagements to allow time to grieve with his wife and family.
