CNN Reporter Goes Rogue... Admits No One Cares About the News They Cover
Over the weekend, a CNN reporter made a couple bombshell admissions about her network and, more importantly, about how the American people generally view it in comparison to, say, Fox.
“Remember, even in 2016 when we went out to these swing states and talked to voters, there was still this fear that things were suddenly going to turn down again,” CNN national political reporter Maeve Reston said Sunday during an appearance on “Inside Politics,” as noted by the Washington Free Beacon.
“You don’t feel that as much anymore, and I’m so interested to see how the Russia investigation affects things, because so far, out in these districts when you talk to people about Russia, and that’s all we talk about at CNN basically, they say they don’t care,” she added.
Listen, and be prepared to gape in shock:
Talk about three stunning admissions.
First, she admitted that fewer Americans worry about the economy now. A poll published earlier this month by Quinnipiac University confirmed this. It found that 66 percent of Americans consider the economy under President Donald Trump to be “excellent” or “good.”
Second, Reston acknowledged that most Americans have no interest in the special counsel investigation into whether Trump’s presidential campaign colluded with Russian operatives during the 2016 election two years ago. Of course, we already knew this.
A Harvard-Harris Poll survey published in July specifically found that a 64 percent majority of Americans believed the Russian collusion investigation was damaging America, while another 56 percent majority wanted Congress and the media to focus on the real issues.
Lastly, Reston acknowledged point-blank that the Russian collusion investigation is “all we talk about at CNN basically.”
No kidding. As White House counselor Kellyanne Conway tried to point out over the summer to host Chris Cuomo of CNN’s “New Day,” “(Y)ou talk about Russia more than you talk about America.”
“Aren’t you the least bit reluctant, if not embarrassed that you now talk about Russia more than you talk about America?” she asked.
I guess not, since CNN continues to obsess over unproven (and arguably discredited) theories of Russian “collusion,” despite the damage this obsession has done to its ratings.
“The ratings results are in for the full year of 2017 and show that CNN not only came in last place, but that the left-wing network’s primetime viewership eroded by double digits — even as second place MSNBC soared, and ratings champ Fox News held tight,” Breitbart reported last month.
CNN could potentially fix this by pivoting its coverage to more substantive issues, but that doesn’t appear to be happening. Nor does it look like it will anytime soon.
Oh well.
